Reinhardt Automatic Shield?

Has anyone noticed crazy shield blocking with Reinhardt at all?
I just saw a Reinhardt as he was swinging (in melee VS two targets ), then he did a 180 degree spin to block a roadhog hook. I typed in /match “I can’t wait to see that on replay” and he instantly left the game.

Is this a thing?

many tank players play at dumb high sens. i once 360’d a firestrike kill only to 180 blocked a shatter then 180 shattered the enemy team in about 2 seconds, it happens.

tank players have to be really good at reacting to and predicting things in general, hog hook has a pretty loud sound que and moves slower than you think. not to mention being able to block hog hooks has been kind of a necessity for riens during the last like 8 months.

Go into replay and record that!! Then post so we can see!!

But maybe it was some godly Rein who heard it coming or had really good call out from a teammate (the one thing I don’t like (sometimes) I’d replay is you can’t hear the comms).

And yeah as the other guy noted some tanks - esp Rein ones - will play on high sense as he needs very minor aim and quick shield direction change can be really helpful at times.

Names are blocked to abide by T&C

I play 800dpi 4 in game… I know you said many so I guess I’m abnormal?

Very impressive. The first block seemed like a predictive block.

The second one might just have been lucky to be honest. What elo is this? Guessing at higher elo he would have been very aware of the fact that hog was still behind him and that hook would’ve just come off cooldown (and that he was standing in a prime spot for an environmental).

Not going to speculate to be honest. Quite cool clip though!

What elo is this at ? This is me on reinhardt when I’m having a really good day … and mine is high diamond

so it’s definitely possible, he stood infront of a wall, what else other than holding his shield up after he got stunned does he want to do :D. Even tho it confuses me that he somehow “aims” at you while shielding. Could just be luck tho

also, mercy name exposed D:. Nvm you see all their names basically at the end xDD whatever tho, shouldnt be a big deal other some snowflake complains.

The crazy thing he was facing away from me during the hook until it was more than halfway to him. Only then his shield went up and he spun

so looking at the clip it’s not that insane at all. Mie wall goes up in front of him as he’s swinging. He looks around and swings (nobody just stares at mie walls). he then decides he is is unlikely to kill the orisa he hit while turning. He then decides to shield the dmg he clearly felt and saw while pinning into the wall originally. Ask me he didn’t even know the hook was coming but was smart enough to make good decisions.

You just got outplayed

I agree with the rest. Good Rein play. Maybe lucky. But since he hit a wall like that and knew you were probably still behind it was a good thing to do if tossing up the shield and spinning.

If he had his camera angled behind himself, he would have been looking directly at you even if he was facing the opposite direction. It would have only taken a release of the mouse click to insta flip him to block the opposite direction.

Rein was looking at the ice wall. Turned to his left to swing his hammer at McCree. And then suddenly remembers there’s a roadhog he needs to shield, not before the hook, not after the hook. Right as hook is used. .
Totally legit.

When he slams that mei wall he starts getting shot in the back. You can see the damage indicator on his screen, he knew he was getting shot from behind. I don’t think he was spinning to counter the hog hook, I think he was spinning to block whoever was shooting his back and got lucky on the hook.

Also, when you charge into the enemy and hit wall and know there are enemies on all sides it’s good practice to 180 and shield for a sec while you figure out which direction you need to go in.

Watching it again, the first hook. Reins cursor placement. While walking, he doesn’t care where his cursor is. (you don’t need to aim to shield)
As he shields, The cursor ‘appears to’ center on roadhog.
Seconds after, he shields again and appears it centers on McCree.
Seconds after he shileds a roadhog shot, the cursor does center on Roadhog, but he quickly moves it to the left.
How often do you directly look at the target you’re shielding? He’s just a really good aiming reinhardt player. No one cheats in this game.

Looks to me like good awareness on the first shield blocking the hook. During the icewall, looks like he was being shot in the back, turned to block, and your hook came in late. It looks pretty normal to me.

This kind of nonsense only happens on PCs, which while people say it’s better than console, the game of Overwatch looks far more like a clown show on PC than Console.

And it’s another reason I can’t stand to watch the esport of Overwatch. It’s filled with bouncing, shield flipping, flickering nonsense that makes it look awful. Overwatch is for sure way more fun to play than watch.

What a good Rein!! Hope endorsed

Not cheating lmao…

He was looking at you in the first clip. Go to practice range, pick rein. You can angle your camera anywhere with shield up by holding both mouse buttons simultaneously. Release left click when facing a different direction than your shield is pointing and watch your shield snap over
