Reinhardt and Orissa ult are inconsistent

Reinhardt and Orissa both hits the ground for their ult, but rein’s is blocked by barrier while Orisa isn’t.
Player first encountering rein would think, oh, barrier blocks that ult, then get confused when Orisa does the same thing and it doesnt get blocked.
It’s never clear that Orisa would pierce barrier.

Same action, different interactions, kinda inconsistent, any thoughts?
Feel it should be one or the other for both of em.

Thought of this, what if the animation is changed into a sweeping spear attack instead of slamming it on the floor, that way it looks clear that it’d pierce barrier since it’s a melee attack-ish.

We used to be able to use barrier to block the final slam part, but I believe initially it was too easy to block since it took time to charge up. The older version of the ultimate also charged slower and did less damage too. So, it was probably just a bunch of buffs and changes altogether that made it that way.

Could they change it back? Maybe, I suppose this was just a way to counter like Sigma and stuff but, idk they could always change it. I sometimes feel like it should block. It was sad seeing the Winston on my team jump in to bubble thinking it’ll save us lol

Ye, that makes sense cause you need to charge it up.

That winston part, haha, yeah it’s never clear that it’d be blocked by barrier. Made me thought about how to make that part clear, and changed my main post.

Inconsistent or not, shatter is still a much much better ult.

i mean, sure, i’m a reinhardt enjoyer as well, but wasn’t talking about that. More like the confusion players might have about this inconsistency.

Reinhardt’s ultimate goes forward, while Orisa’s damages the whole area at once.

I personally love Reins ult, and I prefer it more than Orisa, I mean many can get out of that one.

I don’t think blizz cares about inconsistencies anymore. I mean, they just introduced one by making it so sombra emp no longer gets rid of tree. But overall most things are consistent, and with a bit of gameplay people will learn what is blocked or not by barriers.

IDC about Orisa (getting value for nothing), nerf her worse than Hog, imo.

Now that her ult can be cancelled by a simple hack, I think it ignoring barriers is fair

Rein’s shatter felt more rewarding back in OW1. But it’s still pretty strong even in OW2.

I tend to get more value out of orisa’s ult than reins ult in lower elo…unless the enemy has sombra. Then, I end up not being able to use my ult until that sombra is dead. Since a simple hack can cancel my ult.

Even Lifeweaver’s petal platform nullifies orisa’s ult. But it’s not as annoying as hack since it requires a little more skill and preparation. Not to mention the platform can be destroyed whereas a hack has no counterplay.
