This extra health on Rein shield and faster recharge means it is up a lot more and it is making some of the old maps with the chokes really tedious to play. Of all the things to buff on Rein, why pick the shield? It’s the least interactive, least fun, and most frustrating part of his kit.
It seemed like they have been trying to move away from the shield and make him a more dynamic hero with his charge cancel to get into position, with his 300 damage charge, double fire-strike, and now they go back in the direction of a shield bot.
Why? It’s not fun. Shooting shields is NOT FUN. Shooting a shield that is back up almost as soon as it’s down is NOT FUN. Having a hero with 1600 shields HP on top of so much health and armour is NOT FUN to play against.
This has pushed more in the direction of counter-swapping, which seems to be a thing about this patch.
What is it about shooting shields that you guys dislike? Really, what is it? Is it just the fact that you can’t apply damage on to enemies?
And that failed. You had to do so much to get and maintain a position while other tanks just had to stand there. He has no range, so why not a strong shield? Because YOU don’t like it when the shield gets in the way of the pew pew?
Counter swapping will always be a good idea; if the damage heroes and supports counter swapped more instead of leaving it to the tanks, we might not be in this situation.
You’re not going to find fun 100% of the time in a game. Sometimes, a character needs to have a strong ability that’s fun for them, or enable them to make plays. Instead people argue with “I’m not having fun, so not only is Reinhardt’s ability to make plays irrelevant, his fun is irrelevant”, and that’s just obnoxious.
Not true; you can actually win if you shoot Rein shield.
I think a lot of complainers just need to find a new game to play. Any fun and unique mechanic just gets tarnished because, for some reason, FPS fans saw that there was guns in this game and decided it had to be a tactical skill shooter with cod clone characters.
True, but when you have to do that half the game what is the point? There is a threshold of where majority find it a chore to play, and rather just drop the game.
Have we learnt nothing after the double shield fiasco?
And they should drop the game. Its clear they don’t want to play Overwatch. They want to play a game where they shoot characters and make epic plays and have everyone compliment their FPS mechanics. I’ve had my fill of that, and I think I want to see more unique mechanics in shooters.
MORE shields, MORE flying characters, MORE fun and whimsey. Overwatch got choked out by the idea that, in this wacky disney-like shooter made by Blizzard, the only characters allowed to be good are the generic ones.
It has pushed a lot of people toward it. Orisa is WAY down and Rammatra is the de facto hard counter. I imagine that is why they randomly nerfed him. He is crushing Optimus Prime.
Shield destruction requires a specific pick. With a lower threshold, more heroes can be used which aren’t as destructive. 1400 felt like a decent value. The other thing too is that shield > dmg mitigation in most cases because it blocks all CC effects, blocks healing, and prevent ult charge generation.
