Rein Pyramid vs Rock, Paper, Scissors

discussion on balancing philosophy

i don’t have to say much on rock paper scissors, it’s a universal concept

rein pyramid is the idea that the most most played hero in a role is the true north that the rest of the role is balanced around, where monkey gets to completely bypass him, orisa and doom basically cc him from being able to press buttons, ram gives him a fair fight at close range, dva burns his shield etc

so if you apply that to say supports where either ana or mercy are the most played, you could buff them to have more impact and be the 1st lion that eats, but they have so much counterplay that no one is mad about it

rein has the strongest cc ability in the game, a 1 shot, a no no wall, underrated movement which is the most diverse kit in the tank role reminiscent of ana and yet he is not hated because he is very predictable and has counterplay even if you enjoy crossing the street without looking left or right

Its because you can bully the crap out of Reinhardt just as much as Winston and he’s been extremely lacking in top 500 presence at all in any season.

Both tanks few people tend to play for very long without going to other tanks. There is simply too much BS against them. I personally feel Winston/Rein are very easy heroes conceptually. I feel the game is better off without them being the top tier tanks.

I’d rather them be regulated for low-mid tier level of play for best value like a Moira. While on the other side we elevate ball/dva/doomfist for top level play and heroes like JQ over Rein.

without out playing heros with a objectively lower skill ceiling, the high skill ceiling heros are not fun

that can’t be forced into a game through balancing, it needs to be an even matchup until the way genji players skill shines through

ok yeah no one has an issue with moira and she has a fun gameplay loop

Title made me think about a Rein Pyramid Head skin.

One big reason why Rein is so much easier to kill than Ana is that Ana doesn’t have hard counters. Especially not when the other support can go brig and she becomes immortal. Brig is such a stupid easy counter to dive and completely eliminates the one weakness Ana has as well as Zen’s biggest weakness. No nerfs are going to change this and keep this hero balanced. Lifeweaver just makes everyone immortal with his healing and life grip is the dumbest ability to be added to ow2. Kiriko at least needs to tp into potential danger to bail her team mates out of certain death.

Personally I think all the tanks that were there at launch (excluding Roadhog), Junkerqueen, ball, and doom, are good but the rest are not good for the game. They lack weaknesses, have power crept ults/damage, power crept sustain, cc, etc. And when I say they lack weaknesses, I don’t mean that they’re completely void of weaknesses. But compare them to any tank from launch and they look like they have no weaknesses. I think abilities that not only stun, but also one shot combo you before you can move should have never been added to this game. Deciding to remove stuns from everyone and giving them to tanks was not a good idea because it did not reduce the cc in the game at all, just changed the source. What’s worse is that not all tanks have cc despite this philosophy they decided to run with. Also, Mauga is a Roadhog with a Reinhardt charge and two mini turret form bastions strapped to his arms. Not sure why that had to be added to the game.
