Was rein ever fun, at least consistently? especially in OW2?
I could see rein being fun in OW1 much more often, since people liked to mirror rein + zarya, so you were much more likely to get into rein friendly comps.
But in OW2, there isn’t that many heroes that enables rein (only ana or lucio, no more zarya). On top of that, it has became significantly easier to counter and deny tanks in OW2.
I have always hated rein, he was the tank that was the least fun to play for me. I hated that everyone wanted you to switch to rein zarya when you started losing. I hated that the other team went rein zarya when they started losing. But these all seem like quaint little complaints compared to the garbage that is tanking in OW2.
I guess people really liked rein + zarya back in OW1 because there wasn’t that many tank heroes to choose from. So naturally, people gravitated towards tank hero/synergy that was the most fun to play which happened to be rein + zarya. In fact, one of the best games I’ve ever had was Rein + zarya in King’s Row back in OW1.
But there were things about OW1 tanks that I didn’t like too much as well, particularly their shield HP which they had a lot of. I didn’t like rein’s shield HP back in OW1 in particular. Shields in general made one sided matches even harder to win since you literally couldn’t deal any damage to the squshies hiding behind shields.
For example, it was almost impossible to break through enemies that had team comps that had rein + orisa/sigma + mei + symmetra + brig + bap on maps like Nepal Village. Once the point was taken, it was literally impossible to do anything especially as support back when.
On most other maps, I didn’t have any issue facing against these kind of team-comp though. It was mainly the control maps that had a lot of cover around the point (e.g. Nepal Village and Lijiang tower Garden) that made these type of comps very annoying to deal with.
that is a significant factor now yes, counterwatch helped usher in that direction for me at least
just for funsies, i would say something like rein/ zarya/ ana/ zen or dps doom or nano blade or pharmercy could work but yes it was very difficult to pull off.
edit: junk just for his primaries would be good too
he was fun for a short stint where you were able to force some of those old playstyles and even force your own deaths, but if it wasnt counterwatch there was a definite feeling of i cant do anything.
thankfully to some extent counterwatch isnt as bad anymore
Any comp would work, they just have to be equally as good as the enemy team in coordination & skill-wise. I think defensive team comps like that on control maps like Nepal Village/Lijian tower Garden made it extra harder for one player to make a difference in the game and turn it around, especially if your team was worse.
I guess that’s one upside with OW2. Which is that it gives a room for one player to be more impactful and hard carry even when the cards are stacked against them.
But that’s only one good thing about OW2 but 10 other bad things
Imo, unless you literally rework Rein from 0 and give him a range weapon, he is outdated. People that play Rein do it most of the time cuz they like the big guy paladin hammer gameplay, or nostalgia.
I still get them occasionally. Usually most people survive because of all the immortal cooldowns and whatnot, but I still landed it. That’s good enough for me.
No clue. It doesn’t matter because my teammates what to play their favorite heroes regardless.
Huh?
You can still outplay their team. Who cares if they are on tank or not?
No offense, but outsmarting Brig and Reinhardt players is not really an accomplishment.
You sort of have to depending on their composition.
It is more that Orisa or Rammatra win for free.
I just dominate them without skill.
I guess, just because they are not Orisa or Rammatra.
Rein/Zarya were among the easiest tanks to play requiring the least knowledge. Zarya’s only major complexity is bubble management, but otherwise all you do is run around shooting things. You have almost next to no other considerations than you are a chunky DPS.
Reinhardt’s not very difficult in execution. In most cases, unbind shift and you’ll learn the hero quickly enough and its dropping between swing and shield. Its very hard to screw up swinging.
Its more effort to stop a shatter than it takes to press the Q and shift in killing at least one person or more.
rein not being mirrored also sucks because the rein player will never swap off him and will spend all game being critical health against a mauga or orisa
Strange then that he is near top-pick at all ranks in comp - top-4 everywhere, top in a couple of ranks and number 2 in some more.
Why would they want to rework one of the most picked tanks? Even when he was worse, he was still highly picked. People just like playing him as he is. Just because OP isn’t having fun on him doesn’t mean he needs anything changed.
