I don’t know if they are afraid of Reinhardt or if they hate him. But it’s really like the game itself doesn’t want Reinhardt, he gets counter all the times. Increasing his shield from 1200 to 1400 hp doesn’t mean he’ll be welcome in the meta. He was already horrible in season 6 and 7. And now we are in season 8, we have Ramattra who already counter Rein and he got buffed. Winston, his canon is literally ignoring armors now. Doomfist, Junker Queen and Mauga too, well you know what I mean. What about Reinhardt, did he get something? Nothing. If they don’t make a single change on Rein, it means that he’s good, right? So why playing Rein today mean literally taking risks?
Rein was actually middle of the pack last season. He consistently did better than about half of the tank roster, including Ramattra. With the Mauga nerfs, Rein’s position of mediocrity is mostly secure.
You may not want to play him on Havana or Circuit Royale.
Even on every escorts map he isn’t really good.
Rein shouldn’t be the only Tank to play but on the other hand he shouldn’t be forgotten

I totally agree with you when you say that he shouldn’t be the only tank to play. But however, he didn’t get anything since mid season 5. It’s like they’ve forgotten him. Either he is good or they don’t care about him and he’s bad.
They are trying to get all of the tanks on the same level
He’s the most balanced Hero (for lack of a better phrase) and Tank… but then again it’s also the fact that there are so many more issues with Tanks that they can’t get around to Rein
This isn’t a great way to understand Rein’s powerlevel. I think you’ll find the overall skill level of most Rein players on that specific character to be way, way higher than pretty much any other tank.
By which I mean there’s a lot of players specifically very good with him - not that the people playing him are better players. Same applies to a lot of the characters that have been popular most of OWs life like genji, tracer. It doesn’t help that they got rid of most of his complexity for OW2. It’d be important to look at how otherwise good people picking him up the first time vs other tanks do or something.
No simple stat or graph is going to equate for this.
Poor, poor Reinhardt, he is still fun but he just gets wrecked by everyone, even up close where he should reign supreme, he is very outdated at this point which is unfortunate because he is one of my favourite characters, his voicelines are hilarious and he has a very positive and joyful attitude.
But being blunt he kinda… sucks,even on kings row where he used to be a must pick.
All the tanks aside from Doomfist, Orisa, Ramattra, and now Mauga have been around since OW1 and have a lot of specialists. Rein is no exception there.
Yes I am aware there was more than one tank on release. Which doesn’t conflict with anything I stated.
No other release tank has maintained the consistent popularity and very little change to gameplay that Rein has. Zarya would be the only competitor and I think it’s fair to say she’s likely overall less popular over the years.
Rein is THE low rank tank that is always played and will always work in low ranks. Thats the reason why they are not buffing him, because over 60% would have to deal with an OP tank. Currently Rein is just fine, but can be countered.
Rein didn’t get buffed because he’s fine for the large majority of the player base.
Maybe this will change in season eight, but he’s not been struggling. He wasn’t horrible in season seven for most of us.
