Rein buff, but speed antisynergy

REINHARDT

Barrier Shield

  • Lucio Speed boost does not grant increased movement speed to Reinhardt, while his Barrier is active.
  • Movement penalty while Barrier is active reduced from -30% to -15%.

Toying around with how you buff Rein, without causing a Rush Comp.

Since midrange deathball is good. But Rush is mostly bad. In terms in comps people enjoy playing as/against.

Making Rein feel better for the vast majority of players, is a great way to fix Queue Times.
But he’s kinda limited by how strong that can get at high ELO and eSports.

I see you understand how dangerous buffing a character’s raw movespeed is and instead elected to suggest reducing a penalty in exchange for not stacking with external boosts, enabling Rein to work without a Boostio.

Yup.

But also just generally.

People like Dive, and they like midrange deathball, with maybe speed on Queen/Sigma/Zarya

But Poke comps are too much downtime
And Rush comps are also too much downtime (wanna-be GOATs)

Also Hog/Mauga meta comps, upset people.

So how do you get Midrange deathball, without it becoming Rush.

Also yeah, Rein working regardless if your team has Lucio, is pretty nice.

Sounds like a good qol buff. More buff than QoL, but still both.

I think the boy deserves a buff that isn’t “More thiccness for the thiccness god”.

Considering every other barrier tank does not suffer from movement speed loss, or has their damage completely negated from using it. The big man ought to get some new and improved legs.

Another idea which is likely way harder to balance, is give Rein increased movement speed adverse to his shield HP. So the more damage the shield is the faster he walks.

Which would make pinning on shield break a bit wacky, but fun nonetheless.

Greyfalcon’s idea is less wacky, but easily more balanced. Likely the way to go.

Eh, I’m not a fan of punishing people for shooting things in a shooter. For instance, I’d much rather Zarya’s bubbles restore “ammo” than buff her damage. Shooting the bubbles would still increase her dps, but only through reduced reloads rather than microwaving people back to spawn.

Something I’ve been thinking about with Rein is giving his hammer swings a small slow effect to reward players for getting in there.

They greatly decreased how fast Dva moves while firing compared to how slow it used to be. I think Orisa used to have the same debuff back when she threw out soccer goals but cant quite remember. No reason Rein should be the only one moving so slow when doing his job.

Like a rage mechanic, make it his new passive since his got turned into the global tank passive. It could even be a two parter, lower barrier increases speed (swing speed too maybe), but hits with the hammer regen a % of shield back. Lets you get back to blocking faster if needed and your playing a bit of a minigame between blocking and swinging now.

Now that sounds dope. Gives more to micromanage, thus more dynamics and fun to be had. For the enemy and the Rein player.

I have zero faith that these devs could implement that in a balanced way however.

This I can get behind. But the devs would reduce the passive shield recharge to compensate, making it harder to get there in the first place. Ah, the difficulties of balancing melee characters.

What if Rein could apply a bludgeoning debuff? Decrease max health by 10-15% for 3-5 seconds. Doesn’t stack, and takes 2-3 hammer hits to apply once.

A pin into the wall applies the bludgeoning. And Earthshatter applies it to all knocked down.

This is why healthy discussions are good, because now I’m thinking about reducing the base damage of his swings and adding bonus percent-based damage to compensate. Make him less useless against Hog and Mauga without destroying squishies any harder than he already does.

EDIT: After doing some quick math, I think 85+6% would be healthy enough to try. That would keep him at 100 damage per swing to 250hp heroes but buff it to 133 against Hog. It would mean it takes an extra swing to kill a Widow, but you were probably doing that anyway when factoring healing.
