Yeah, they want you to buy the $30 bundle and not piece meal. Money up front for everything at once. Can you imagine offering a $30 bundle and not making it so you can upgrade at a lower price if you own the BP? no discount? crazy.
For me, it’s a no brainer. $30 for a widow skin I’ll never use, the $10 battle pass included, 2000 coins for lifeguard mercy, 20 tier skips as well as the Demon pharah skin I’ll also never use. If I need the mercy skin at 2000 along with the BP, spending $10 and $20 will get me 3200 coins minus 1000 for the BP and minus 2200 for the bundle except no tier skips and no widow skin.
Keep in mind, I have Noire, Kerrigan and 2018 Mayhem skins as well as OWL 1 and Anniv 2020 weekly. Dryad is a really cool skin for the collection but it’s just that, a collection. Kind of misses the point of paying for a higher bundle. If she’s ever available for PvE, sure enough someone will auto-lock her anyways.
If they were a good company, they would provide upgrade paths for people who wanted to buy things a-la-carte, but they aren’t. They want as much money as possible, as often as possible. I haven’t put in a single cent, not even for Watchpoint packs or anything, beyond the Starter packs. Whether they were $5 or $10. But that lifeguard mercy skin is the cultivation of years of fan-concepts. It sucks but this $30 bundle is the only deal I see.
Would be way better if they were just cheaper like fortnite. Who the heck wants to pay $30 for a battle pass bundle!? Fortnite asks for $13 every OTHER month and you not only get the battle pass, but you get 1000 currency along with [2] Monthly item sets (Skin, Back Bling, Pickaxe, Wrap, Loading Screen). They’re asking nicely and for a good price, I hate to “support” them since everyone hates them but they’re doing it smart. I’ve put more money in that game “here and there” over the past 5 years that it’s ridiculous.
Overwatch? Went from $5 to $10 starter packs because “It just makes sense”. No, what made sense was buying a $5 pack and then earning the 500 credits a season for the Battle Pass. I even saw a “deal” last season that was 10 tiers for $20. While 2 tiles below it was BP+40 tiers for $20. Something is not right. Also, if you happen to buy this “$30 bundle” too late? those tier skips go toward NEXT season. After level 80, you’re done! it’s all grind from that point on. Fortnite had that too, then they changed it. Want 200? here’s a last minute level up pack for $8 that’ll give you 28 levels to find and earn during the last month. Overwatch 2 has such a long way to go in terms of player progression, economy, rewards and value. If we were able to even earn 50% of the BP back in currency through the pass, suddenly, there’s an economy and a way to earn back credits. Suddenly you want to start buying these bigger bundles to stock up on coins.
Suddenly I want that $30 bundle so I can earn the BP at no cost and stockpile my coins. But no, deplete deplete deplete.
