Regarding anti-cheat changes and WINE/Linux Overwatch players

On behalf of Linux/WINE players of Overwatch, I want to put in a word about the new anti-cheat improvements.

Many times, a new anti-cheat update has broken compatibility of a game for many Linux users, often times the developers refusing to un-ban players that are simply just playing on Linux, using Wine/Vulkan.

For example:
-League of Legends has updated their anti-cheat many times, resulting in players being unable to play for months (currently we are able to play again, but it was a long time to get it working).
-EasyAntiCheat does not run at all through WINE, there was word a Linux version was/was going to be in development, but no news as far as I’m aware.
-EA has banned many players in Battlefield V simply for playing with WINE/DXVK on Linux

It is probably too much to ask for an official Linux port of Overwatch to Linux,
However how things are currently, I actively play Overwatch and Hearthstone on Linux souley, with no issues whatsoever.

So TL:DR,
To the developers of Overwatch (and all the other Blizzard development groups):
Please, on behalf of Linux players
Don’t let the anti-cheat break compatibility for us.
Or at the very least, please do not issue permanent bans for simply trying to play the game with Linux.

So far, things have been great! (from Linux compatibility, to game development & communication)
So my only wish is to keep it up, and remember to listen to your players!

Best regards,
-Amphy

Anti cheat (warden) that is used by Blizzard once caused many false bans in WoW. All were overturned on appeal.
Overwatch is not Linux compatible so playing it on Linux is done at your own risk.
