The only way to balance open-queue and role-queue comp is reducing overall tank’s damage per second.
There is 1 tank limit for each side on role-queue, so they must be durable as it is now. however, they don’t have to have strong damage per second at all. they have strong damage per second as DPS heroes does. therefore, now 3~4 tank combination is dominating open-queue. tanks are replacing DPS heroes position. that’s ridiculous.
please reduce damage per second of tanks for balance entire game mode.
remove one-shot of roadhog. reduce damage of roadhog gun and give him faster fire rate and bigger clip size and more hp.
To be fair, they tested tanks having half of their current dps and having more HP and defense in an experimental card in OW1 and it was lame. Tanks were unkillable walls but they also couldn’t get kills either. They existed solely to soak damage and hang out and it was pretty lame.
Tanks, I feel, will eventually get their time to be weakened as a flavor of the season. I think with the newness of everything in 2, giving tanks a chance to be a strong presence on the battlefield is pretty much the only way they can get people to play the role.
Role queue is balanced. Tanks are completely fine there.
To balance Open Queue, you just need to do one of the following.
Put in role limits gasp
Put in a modifier that just reduces tank health based on the number of tanks picked. The more tanks picked the greater percentage of total health they lose making them squishier IF people decide to stack them.
Hard disagree. Tanks are fine in 1-2-2. And remember we tried it the other way already. It didn’t work. That was one of the worst experimental cards in the history of the game. Tanks must have the damage. It’s not much different than it was in OW1. The difference is they are beefier than OW1. Damage is about the same.
We could always lower defences back to OW1 levels and put back in 2 tanks if you’d prefer. That would double the damage and add another 1/3 of the health. Tanks as a role are weaker in OW2 than OW1, objectively.

I think this was the Problem in OW1. Tanks were mostly just Meat-Shields, doing best when they had their barrier up. Nobody wanted to play them, or play Tanks that really did their Job. Rather Blast things with Zarya Beam or Ball around.
Now they are like DPS, and more people Play them. But DPS-Characters of course get disadvantaged by that…
I would prefer to get rid of open q than ruining the tanks more.
The game will never be balanced around all modes. Heck, it is hardly balanced even for role q.
I don’t mind big hp, maybe even 1k hp for me it’s not a problem but if I play reaper and zarya/hog kill me in 1 sec because I have to be in their range and tanks have sick dmg it’s not okay . Tanks don’t have more hp shield/barriers or mobility like dva to be the role that deals the most, it’s not a balance.
2-2-2 in ov1 was made for dps to be played but 2-2-2 alone doesn’t fix that tanks aren’t just better at everything than dps and now with 1-2-2 tanks they are still badly balanced.

and the fight is on a short/medium distance and the tanks have such a range and if they deal a lot of dmg, it’s bad for the game

Tanks are big damage up close. DPS have ranged damage or very high damage up close. No tank touches Tracer level damage in range. And no tank can do damage effectively at the ranges of Soldier, Sojourn, or Widowmaker.
So, stay at least 15m away from the tanks and you are good to go. That’s the balance.
i am 800 hours playing tanks user. game is ruined by tanks. i want diverse composition on open queue match. now they use 3~4 tanks. that’s the worst and boring. too many pigs.
fights are usually up to 20 meters and tanks can fight up to 20 meters so? what about the widow shooting from a distance? and what about reaper junk etc that work close? may die because tanks may have sick dmg? no tanks are not supposed to kill in 1 sec it’s not balance it’s broken and need dmg nerf
Open queue should not be a consideration for balance, period. It shouldn’t even exist. I think they should remove Open Queue before they rebalance tanks around it.
But as I mentioned before, there are ways to handle it without ruining tanks for the main game mode (role queue).
Limit number of tanks
Scale tank HP with number of tanks on team.
Both solutions are better than what you are proposing.
