Reddit vs. The Forums

It seems like when it comes to basically any issues regarding balance in this game, these two communities are always at polar opposites of each other. Why is this? Is it the people they attract?

This is both the official Overwatch subreddit and the competitive Overwatch subreddit. If a buff/nerf is truly too strong it should be universally agreed upon. Right?

Us support mains are not “allowed” to give an opinion in Subreddit. The subreddit is full of DPS (even the mods are DPS mains) that place is toxic af.

I mean, the same could be said about the forums. It’s filled to the brim with Mercy one tricks and Silvers who think they’re the paragon of balancing and the whole site is a toxic anti-DPS circlej.

Wait, since when does anyone talks about balance on the OW subreddit? All I ever see there are “9000 IQ play” type highlights and tired memes.

the subreddit thinks we’re toxic, the forums think the subreddit is toxic.

Is vicious cycle

I have found less toxic in the new forums, but yeah now everyone is whining for Brigitte nerf.

On competitive overwatch subreddit, they say Reaper will become OP with his buffs.

Also a couple of months ago I went to a Doomfist bugs fix and buff thread, and they said Doomfist doesn’t have any bugs at all, and they used “but have you seen Chipsa” whenever someone ask for Doomfist to get buffed.

So I’m never ever going back to r/overwatch, I like the forums more.

I don’t frequent /r/Overwatch but I imagine more casual players are on the OW Forums as they have a Blizzard account automatically. If /r/OW is populated with nothing but hardcore DPS mains and higher-elo players, then they probably don’t care about issues like toxicity, throwers, smurfs, boosters, OP DPS abilities/heroes, etc. I’m making an assumption here and am not saying /r/OW is only this or that or these forums are only this or that, just maybe mostly. I also doubt the moms or little kids that actually play this game are on Reddit

That’s because the new forums got the auto ban for being reported and is never reviewed, system.

It’s the circle of life!

This is misinformation and wrong. I have seen countless of threads over at r/Overwatch that want toxicity, throwers, boosters gone. Not sure why you would even make such an assumption without overviewing the subreddit first.

I personally feel like Reddit is far more mature than the forums here. People here completely shuts everyone out and many users have a mentality of Support is superior than every other class and this is coming from someone who plays and mains, support and tank.

That’s not the case at all. It’s actually more casual than this forum. It’s 90% memes and highlights.

R/CompetitiveOverwatch is supposed to be the forum for the more hardcore players but it in reality most of it is nothing but an extreme fanboy group where people gush about awesomeness of the pros and repeat every their claim like gospel.

I think it’s pretty fun that you all frequent the forums so much as to even care or have an opinion about it all like dang just go play the game or do your job if ur at work lol

Every time someone makes a balance discussion related thread in r/overwatch, it will usually get downvoted, and thus not reach front page, unless it’s actually popular opinion/idea. This is why there is no discussion.

These forums are opposite. Posts are, as far as i know, bumped by replies, which is why unpopular ideas are often in front page here: people replied because they disagree.

Official forums are where people go to complain about things. That’s not just an OW thing. All games are this way.

Reddit is generally better as far as discussions go. People go there to talk about the game. People go to the official forums to cry nerf this or that.

Not to say one is better than the other.

I completely agree with this statement. People only come here to whine and cry about a hero that dominates them in a single match and where their team does not switch to a counter. What is the simplest way to let of that frustration? Go to a forum and cry for a nerf.

Reddit, across the board, is an internet hive of scum and villainy. It is unsurprising to learn that this extends to Overwatch-flavored Reddit forums. The less mentioned about it, the better.

nah, 4chan is the hive of scum and villainy.

It’s a battle between casuals and competitives. People who understand the game at an intense and high level and those who dont.

It is. And Reddit is its gateway drug.
