Every day, I seem to encounter the problem of disconnecting from the game for every 2-5 minutes I am in-game. I see the red box with the hazard and lightning bolt symbol inside it on the top left of my screen every time I disconnect. It brings me back to the main menu and I have press “REJOIN MATCH” in order to join back. It usually takes me about 30 seconds to reconnect and it has cost me a lot of team fights and has even made me lose games. How may I fix this? I already did everything related to the cmd and have already updated my drivers. I am on ethernet. Thank you
Hey there,
This kind of disconnection could indicate problems with your home network (router/modem) or somewhere in the ISP network. I’d recommend running a WinMTR test to see if we can identify where any packet loss or high latency is occurring when the problem happens.
- Download WinMTR
- Right-click on the downloaded .zip folder and select “Extract All”, to extract the files to a new folder.
- Open the new folder that was created, then open the WinMTR_x64 folder.
- Right-click on the WinMTR application and select “Run as administrator”.
- Launch Overwatch and join a match. Once you’re in the match, press Ctrl+Shift+N to open the Network Graph.
- Look for the server name displayed in brackets and the IP address at the top. Note you will need to remove the colon and port number after the IP address before running the test. (12.345.67.89:PORT)
- Alt+Tab back to WinMTR, then type the server IP address in the “Host” field.
- Click on “Start” and Alt+Tab back into the game. Allow the test to run for at least 10 minutes or the duration of a match. Click on “Stop” when you’re done playing after you have experienced the latency or connection issue.
- Click on “Copy Text to Clipboard”, paste the results her e, then highlight everything and hit the </> button in the posting section so it will allow links.

Hey mayek,
The WinMTR results look good. What’s important is to look at the % packet loss and sent/recv on the first IP and last IP. Ignore the couple of nodes in the middle that are showing loss, those are just configured differently.
Did the issue occur while the test was running?
Lets try resetting the network settings in Windows:
Go to Start → Settings → Network & Internet → Network reset
Proceed with the prompts and restart the computer.
Test the game again and report back with how it goes.
Yes, the error occurred while the test was running. Will it be okay for me to get back to you and send new results if the error persists after resetting the network settings? Thank you.
You can always add more info, you just can’t reply to yourself in the forum.

I got the problem again. Here are the results
I noticed you made another thread with your results. Please don’t do that next time, as it makes it harder to track what steps have been taken to assist you.
Looks like the new WinMTR results appear fine as well, so whatever is causing the problem isn’t showing up in the tests for some reason.
If you have the ability to test a different connection, like a mobile data hotspot or a VPN, that would be my next recommendation. Sometimes there can be problems with the internet provider or between the ISP and game servers that will cause issues like this, but the issue won’t show in connection tests. So using a different connection would re-route the connection path and should help narrow things down further.
If another connection does end up helping, contact your internet provider and give them the details of the issue along with mentioning another connection helped so that they can investigate further for you.
