Recoil Recovery Aim Compensation

Hello! So, I didn’t know what this setting would do, and there is a lot of confusion out there about this. This setting is available for Ashe, Cassidy, Widow, Ana and Baptiste. I have been trying and testing this setting and, to be honest, during game you can’t tell a big, big difference, but I made some experiments, and now I know how this setting works. You can try it yourself, so you can decide what is best 4 you in all cases or with specific heroes that has this setting available.

You can make the experiment on the practice range. I think it’s more noticeable with Baptiste, since he has a 3 bullet recoil.
Shoot at something still without moving your mouse, and you will notice that the crosshair will go up a little bit and then go back to the initial height. This will happen with the setting ON or OFF, but then here is the difference:
With both settings, try to counter the recoil and place the 3 bullets on the same spot by pulling down your mouse, so you don’t let the recoil push your crosshair upwards and keep the 3 bullets on the same height. There you will notice the difference on both settings, and if you don’t, let me explain:

With the setting ON, your mouse will keep going down and down and down if you keep countering the recoil until you run out of mouse pad, without having to bring your crosshair/mouse up again.
With the setting OFF, your mouse will have to go down to counter the recoil, then you will have to go up again manually to reset the initial height.

In conclusion, what the setting does is helping you to bring your aim up again in case you try to control the recoil. If you deactivate this setting, you will have to pull down your mouse to control the recoil, but you will have to move your mouse up again to keep it on the initial spot.
With the setting ON, the game will actually move your crosshair to help you. With the setting OFF, you have complete control of your crosshair. But it’s up to you. IMO I have this setting off, but now you know how it works, and you can think what suits better for you. GLHF! Hope this helped you a little bit.

I had it OFF for a while, bad choice. Let me show you why:

  • Set it to OFF.
  • Select McCree (this is the character that shows the difference in these settings the most).
  • Chose a spot on a wall with horizontal line on it. You can find some spots like these in the training range.
  • Stand in front of the wall, shoot the line one time without doing anything else. Your crosshair goes up/down.
  • Do the same but now after your shot, iimmediately try to shoot the same horizontal line 0,15-0,25 ingame meters to your right. You’ll see that when you land on the right side spot, the game, not you, pulls your crosshair down and then go up when you try to shoot your spot on the right. To be clear: when you land with your crosshair on the spot on the right, the game first pulls your crosshair down and after that pulls it up.
  • Now do the exact same routine with the setting set to ON. You’ll notice that when you land your crosshair at the right side position, the game doesn’t artificially pulls your crosshair down.

(You can also test this with Baptiste)

Conclusion: setting it to ON produces a much more consistent behavior considering user input. In other words, if I move my crosshair to left/right after a shot, it doesn’t produce any artificial down/up motion. Instead the crosshair does what I’m telling it to do (go to my preferred position).
