All speculation is based upon knowledge gained in the uprising event
We know that Reaper and Gérard were very close friends before Gérard was killed by Widowmaker, so why would reaper join the very organization that had his friend killed? From what I could tell about Reaper based on the latest lore is that he is very passionate about his work and friends, he just has a very misguided sense of justice. So, again to my main speculation; why would reaper join the organization that killed his friend? I believe that he joined talon to destroy it from the inside and to save widowmaker, this is a sort of penance that he has taken upon himself to make up for being unable to save Gérard. As for his seething hatred for Soldier 76, I believe that soldier may have come across some of reapers talon operations and got the wrong idea (perhaps it was vital to reapers plan to save Widow but it was ruined by soldier on accident). this would lead to immediate fighting within the swiss base. Also, I highly doubt that widow and reaper got paired out of pure coincidence. It’s all just speculation, but honestly, I feel like it would be great to see the lore develop more.
P.s. this is my first lore theory so please provide feedback
So he did not tell his best and oldest friend that he knows Gerard’s wife is alive and he’s going undercover to save her?
That is a good point, i can come up with one or two possible answers to that issue.
- perhaps there was reason to believe that there was a spy on the upper end of overwatches leaders, for example: how did talon know about blackwatches base in florence that was bombed?
- Perhaps reaper took it very personally and did not want to see any more of his friends die so he just kept the burden to himself
He just wants to be noticed by jack morrison senpai
He done little to nothing to save Ameli and, according to lore, he is killing Overwatch agents and he clearly injured and wanted to kill Morrison in Old Soldiers.
My thoughts on why he is killing agents is merely because he desperately wants to save widowmaker but lacks the knowledge on how to remove the brainwashing, therefore he needs to gain talons trust. additionally, I believe that Moira’s experiments on reaper may have dulled his emotions but his goal has remained the same.
Oh it’s very likely there was a spy and Gabe knew that. I’m almost certain. Would he go as far as to not tell his friends about his mission “to protect them”? Maybe? But why would he then proceed to lose his mind over those friend ruining his mission on accident all because he didn’t tell them? That kinda paints him as a bad strategist and he’s not a bad strategist.
That sounds good, but again, if Jack accidentally ruins his plans because he “didn’t know what Gabe was up to”, does Gabe have a right to become so unreasonably mad directly at Jack? Just mad in general - sure, but mad at someone who did what he did because he was kept in the dark? I don’t think so.
im really not sure, the lore is still pretty full of holes at the moment. but i would love to see the story turn this way. Im sure blizzards lore masters could think of an infinitely better way of doing it, but i just want to see reaper end up being a misunderstood hero in the end
It doesn’t seem to me that he was SO close with Gerard, that he was ready to kill innocent people, his colleagues, just to help the Widow. This is some kind of perverted way of help from a man who for so many years worked on very delicate missions. I mean, if he wanted to save her, he would just kidnap and hide her, at the same time deciding how to help with brainwashing
This is a good theory Watyll. I personally believe that he was a sleeper agent like Widowmaker. I can’t be sure though.
Since Retribution we know the double spy that Gabe is awared is Moira.
