Why does it take 2.5 seconds to cast this skill?
With how fast paced this game is, standing around for 2.5 seconds seems like a huge waste of time and a huge handicap for an already slow hero.
Is there any reason why this skill has remained pretty much untouched? Seems to me it’d be a lot more useful if the cast time were a lot lower.

cause it’s supposed to be used as a flanking ability, not mid-fight mobility nor at places that are obvious to the enemy.

It’s only useful for moving out of spawn sometimes. Maybe go to high ground if you’re lower than diamond. He announces it so loudly that pretty much everyone will know that you TP’d.

It’s actually useful for escapes if you get the cover to cast it before the enemy catches you.
It just feels kind of limited. We’ve got a whole bunch of heroes using pretty much every button available but for Reaper you can only rely on primary fire and wraith.
Just wondering whether a shorter cast time would give him more options.

hmmm. idk. i like using ss to flank. that being ss could use some help. tbh i’m fine with the cast time. i’d prefer if they fix the targetting system. tho personally, i wouldn’t mind being able to cast SS while in WF, but once you transfer locations you’re out of WF. meaning a widow can still headshot you if you don’t position SS properly.
You’re just not using it right.
The ability just needs replacement for something more consistent. Right now it’s just an out-of-combat, or out-of-spawn ability to be more accurate.

that depends where you use it. i use it a bit far from the enemies. for example in attack dorado i use it to go above the vertical wall flanking route to attack the defending enemy’s by surprise. there’s a lot of flanking routes in the game that reaper can abuse.
Pretty much sums up how it’s used currently. Would be nice if it’s usable in combat without becoming a sitting duck for 2.5 seconds. Even just shaving off 1 second would help a lot.
Because it was created when the game was new, and abilities had limitations. Not in the era of 6s fast invis fade or 5s shield bash stun that stuns longer and more reliably than flashbang.
As an ex reaper main back when I first started playing, the main thing I wanted for him was a faster and more fluid shadow step. It just took way too long and your re-appearance was so telegraphed that it left you a sitting duck, easy kill for widow etc.
Instead they buffed everything else about him lol, faster wraith, cancel wraith and auto reload after abilities. I love the changes but ST still needs to be looked at. At the very least a little speed increase would be nice, but given all the other buffs, I’m not sure how open Blizzard are to now looking at another buff.
Because they don’t want Reaper to teleport into the middle of enemies and use his ult. I have a special place in my heart for Reaper, and I totally agree shadow step is … awkward… I don’t think the answer is to make it fast. I would step into crowds and ult them into oblivion with that, and I don’t think that would be good for the game.
I can see your point but with the increase in the number of heroes with CC skills and escape abilities, it’s probably less of a problem nowadays.
Also it’s probably a lot safer to teleport to a high ground then ult while dropping down instead of DEATH COMES and be a sitting duck for 1 to 1.5 seconds in the middle of the enemy team.
it’s this how reapers usually get the most out of his ult? kinda like pharah’s where it’s best used as a surprise?
Did you mean is this how reaper get the most out of his ult?
I would assume so. Like you said, hide some place and drop down for a surprise ult.
Doesn’t really work that well in the higher levels though. Just a Lucio with some awareness pretty much ruins any reaper ult.
Unless you got a nice wombo combo from rein, zarya or sombra.
yeah i mean in comparison to WF+Death Blossom, SS+Death Blossom is way better. WF just makes the ult way predictable and the downside of Channeled ultimates like DB, Barrage, and even deadeye is they’re pretty counterable unless you catch the enemy by surprise.
