Reaper counters Hog

And Hog counters Reaper.

I hate this mechanic more than anything else in the game lol, when I play Reaper Hog always one-shots me with hook, but when I play Hog I almost never hook-one-shot Reaper and Reaper kills me.

It’s like I’m countering myself. So demoralizing.

(Yes I’ve watched videos about how you step forward a bit etc.)

Hog is nothing more than a huge balloon to shoot at so just rush him and make him respect the Reaper…Bait out his hook or just be patient and wait for hog to throw his hook at another target.You can hear it when he does,then unload on his face with your shotties.Works like a charm

It’s more of a skill match up.

Definitely a skill matchup. It’s like McCree Vs. Tracer. Sure he can stun and delete her. But if he misses that stun, she can disorient him and body him.

Same case here. Hog can hook and one shot him. If he misses hook? He’s likely dead.

You’re doing it wrong as hog!! You shouldn’t try the pure 1-shot combo on reaper - too many things can go wrong during a fight that means you don’t quite get the shots all to hit. You should always right click first and throw out your hook at almost the same moment. The combo is M2-Hook-step forward-M1-Melee.

The M2+Hook have to be as close together as possible so the target does not move when M2 hits. Even if the target is close the M2’s 50 damage is enough to make the combo that follows a near certain kill.

I think the focus there is mostly on wrath form. Time it right and Reaper wins the 1v1, but if you don’t then Hog wins it.

sure it’s similar with the hook but hook can be used the second you see Reaper, the problem is mostly with timing wrath.

Either way, while fighting Hog I usually prefer safer choices like poker or Genji- all do a very good job at dealing with him or at least survive without too much effects from Hog.

Yeah that’s the way to do it, but it also means you’re at the mercy of the rest of the enemy team with pretty much no escape option hahaha.

I just wish they’d bite the bullet and make reaper more of a generalist with an averagish damage ranged attack. There’s no reason to play him when McCree exists.

Tbh, no real reason to dive the enemies if you’re going to escape after a second.

If you’re flanking alone then you’re usually gonna die no matter what and if you’re with a team then wrath form is mostly used for healing and avoid damage anyways similar to deflect vs stuff like junkrat or Zen, or for recall when wanting to finish a target.

I don’t think it’s really fair comparing the 2.

One is a flanker with focus on surprise attacks while the other is a brawler with focus on punishments.

There are so many situations Reaper is better than Mccree and the other way around ofcourse.

Zenyatta,Doomfist & Roadhog are 3 examples 1 of each role where Mccree might actually be the weaker option…

It can’t avoid hooks, flash bang has small range so a lot of time Df can avoid it really well and Zenyatta plays too far from Mccree for Mccree to have impact.

If Doomfist isn’t an option then I can say Bastion instead.

So already there isn’t much to compare.

As for generalizing a hero- it’s all about the direction of the game.

I enjoy heroes being unique and all about abilities so thinking about Reaper becoming something general isn’t too appealing for me but for players who expect this game to be a normal fps this step makes a lot of sense.

Either way, I blame the condition of Reaper-Hog mostly on Hog being a fat dps and Reaper getting the unneeded damage nerf.

If Hog’s focus was really on repositioning like he should have been, stuff like Reaper could still counter him really well while he could still counter most dive compositions. While on the other hand, Reaper’s damage nerf just made him pretty useless in term of survive ability…

Reaper 1v1s as hog are so fun especially when I kill him without hook.

You mostly only get one shot by Roadhog as Reaper when you are on the same level ground. If your playing from a slightly ground than Roadhog then its pretty difficult for the Roadhog player to one-shot you because he has to shoot your head.

Roadhog is a broken character anyway.
His healing should be nerfed.
Brig got nerfed to the ground for being too tanky as a support and Roadhog should be nerfed for being a selfish healer. He is a tank not a healer.

reaper has good range on hog so he cant really run away.

the combo isnt actually to m1 as fast as possible as you arent close enough for all pellets to hit.
just wait a second longer, i have the timing down from a workshop code; 313B1(use f to interact with orbs)

the hardest part for me is not moving my mouse after landing the hook as i have a hard mousepad so i slip easily.
i have more trouble with 1 shotting junkrat these days.

Every other tank has a form of damage mitigation. Hell Sigma has a shield AND is able to increase his max healthpool. Roadhog’s heal is fine as is; easily interruptable with any stun and anti is a death sentence unlike any other tank.

I feel like this is one of the most fair interactions in the game. Both characters are equal, so both characters have ample chance to live and die. Sigma vs Hog used to have this interaction too, but thanks to the shield nerfs, I think the matchup favors hog more.

Meanwhile, I’m Reinhardt, and both Hog and Reaper look at me like its lunch time.

I agree that hog counters reapper, but how reapper counters hog having no stun and oneshot and insta heal button, I don’t get it…

Reaper counters no1 but moneky, maybe.
Unironically a throw pick, useless from the bottom to the top.
Worthless kit, suicidal useless ult. Literally a much weaker version of McCree, and way harder to play.
