Really bad crash on steam deck

Since about a week after perks launched, Linux/SteamOS/Steam Deck players have been consistently and collectively noting unexplainable crashing issues.

Its personally been immensely frustrating. I managed to completely my placements without issue, but since the crashing started I have been avoiding comp as to avoid leaving matches.

Until about 2 days ago, only the sudden frame drops were occasionally happening, never any crashing (I’ll get to that). So I assumed I can finally play competitive, since it wont crash. Only for it to reveal that I have just been lucky, and it crashed again. I am now suffering an eight hour suspension in competitive, a scenario I can’t escape from without completing 20 games without crashing, without knowing what causes the crash.

I did complete well over 20 games in quick play without crashing, and it sucks that I literally can’t play competitive without risking losing it all because of a bug.

In general, two things are happening. 1. Massive frame drops that happen maybe every 10 minutes 2. Crashes that cut to black, which sometimes even require me to restart my Steam Deck

These happen every few games without any explanation or trend. There is no temperature issues or GPU issues I could easily see

I play in desktop mode with Proton 9.0-4, and have never had overwatch issues before this. The game runs great, or did, before this aswell. Across other forums such as steam and reddit, I have seen at least 20 other people report similar issues since around the same time frame.

It is very upsetting that a game I have love and have spent considerable money on is now punishing me for playing, and really hope this can be fixed before the competitive drive, since there is no way for me to participate in any comp due to the risk of a season ban, which is very scary to me.

Just want to say that I’ve 100% been experiencing this too – frame drops and bad stuttering for a few seconds every so often, and plenty of crashes; I had three in a few hours of playing, which got me a temporary ban from playing. I’m trying to play the game as best as I possibly can!

Same here - lots of crashes, freezes and slow downs. It’s becoming very frustrating

i’ve had this issue so many times and its made me suspended a few times (2 and 10 mins). i’ve had it happen since before the perks, but its happened more often in the past few weeks. i haven’t changed anything in my settings graphics/frames/ui since i started playing the game a year ago (i have graphic settings on medium and 60 fps max). for example, today i crashed twice while in games, and i only played maybe 3 because i didn’t wanna risk a suspension. sometimes it seems like its a lag spike causing an overheating issue, other times it looks like the game just quit itself for no reason. i do have the fan setting on my steam deck to non-optimized, which helped a tiny bit with this issue but not very much. in addition, this is the only game i’ve ever had this issue with. i play so many games on my steam deck and i regularly update it/check for updates. i hope this is fixed soon!!!

I’ve also had the same issue - it happens 2-3 times every time I play, so much so that I am getting timeout bans for quickplay as well

I’m still experiencing this. It’s farcical. Why would I spend my money on a game that doesn’t work anymore

Also still happening to me getting at least 1 crash a day plus stuttering , super frustrating and gotten me suspended a couple of times over something that’s not my fault. A big shame it’s happening at a time when the game is in such a good place and I want to be playing a lot of it
