I’m on the side of it dying, so many things have gone wrong and key issues are still in the game.
What you think?

Without massive improvements, yes, within a year.
With the direction it seems to be headed I can’t see it holding an audience for too long.
What would their first improvement be to get there?
Curious
Match making would be a start, then balance. The fact sojourn is still in her current state is unacceptable.
If they keep up the amazing work as of recently then it won’t last much.
Nah, I think it has had a shakey start because it was rushed.
3 years is rushed? lol
Also everyday Sojourn gets ignored and not nerfed a puppy dies.
Facts…
No but around 8 months was very rushed.
They had 3+ years to make it, they only decided to focus on making it cause other money making ideas weren’t working out for them so they took out OW from the trash can and did a quick spit shine.
Part of making games is decisions and they decided for over 2 years to ignore it.
I don’t know why you think this is some gotcha or something. 3 years was definitely rushed for the scope of what OW2 was supposed to be. Especially with how most of that time went towards something that isn’t even released yet.
We got it early because we circlejerked for years about it not being ready / having a release date and then people were angry when they got the rushed mess they begged for.
Really, because I thought they were working on PvE and whatever bobby was after this week, which constantly pulled them off the project.
I mean, tbf they probably spent most time working on the PVE and then were forced to create a sequel to the PVP as well, that one had to be rushed in a few months.
As for the topic, it may not fully die but i can certainly see it reaching the same playerbase problems that OW1 had by its 6th year on its 1st year…
I think they’ll release heroes for maybe a couple years, but the player base will quickly bleed out and the hero content will dry up, being instead shifted to cheaper skins.
An injection of money from pve overwatch 2 will help bring in new heroes- but I anticipate it drying up quickly down the line.
The game will be playable, but you’ll see the same faces a lot at your levels of play. Match making will get worse.
Skins will probably be somewhat reduced in price somewhere down the line to encourage as much money as possible
But I doubt we’ll have a thriving game 4-5 years down the line.
I hope it dies. This game is such low tier cancerous trash. Video games used to be works of art, and this game is a trailer trashy insult
shrugs if they keep the 3 heroes per year + cinematics they’ll likely keep an audience considering the game is free…
…what is more likely is the playerbase falls below a level Blizz deemed financially sustainable and cut the game early themselves.
…that said, until we see PvE threads like this are too early imo…
there will always be monkeys lining up to spend all their money on the game and so long as OW2 is making profits the game isnt going anywhere so i dont see it dieing anytime soon
when ow3 comes out itll be dead
I think this is a long way out though, but it is how games typically end.
