So I don’t own a console so I have no idea how aim assist works there.
From what I have seen, games like Destiny’s aim assist make bullets move slightly towards
your target.
I would like to know how it works before I decide if its bad to let console players use it.
Also does aim assist apply to beam and projectile weapons?

I think it moves your crosshair towards the target when you aim close to it. To some it’s kinda off putting

This ^^
And contrary to what PC players think, it is not aim bot. You still have to have good aim if u want to land even half of your shots

It actually doesn’t do this, console player here.
It slows down your crosshair when you pass over an enemy to a certain degree. It never takes your crosshair and moves it like an aimbot.
Imagine the screen is smooth, you pass over an enemy and they’re like a slight sticky surface.

TBH this does sound slightly annoying. At least for me, I would not like my crosshair to do this.

It mainly helps players who spaz out a bit with spread weapons. You can already disable it if you don’t want it.
I don’t personally think it should be forcibly be removed for people who want to use it and are already accustomed to it.

I also want to add to why the whole “moves towards or closer” to a target thing is also false because if I am on a hero like widow for example, being a hair away from someone has 0 aim assist impact because I am not touching them. The first reply implies the crosshair would inch itself to the correct position. This isn’t the case.
You gotta at least get the crosshair on someone in the first place and even then there’s no soft-lock or anything. Just less sensitive movement on the target.
I think people get it confused because other games do indeed have stuff titled “aim-assist” that’s more of a mini aim corrector. However, OW is not like this.

Anything that helps you aim is an aim bot. Even cheaters don’t use aim bots that give you 100% accuracy because it is too obvious.
Lol if ur scared to get clapped by a controller user with aim assist, then just say that
Its probably a combination of both. I have actually seen the crosshair move by itself during intense fights when enemies are close to each other
I could see the confusion but like I said in another reply to the thread, that isn’t the case. Try going into the training range as pinpoint shot heroes like widowmaker or Mccree and aiming close to tracers head (not in the hitbox thought)
Max aim assist won’t aim for you at all. It won’t move your gun close to tracer, even if you’re just barely not touching her head hitbox. An Ai never takes control of your gun and inches it into the correction position nearby.
The reason we console players have the sticky aim assist to compensate for the fact that console players usually need higher senses on controllers to look around as fast (or close to as fast…) as PC.
High sensitivity can lead to overly touchy turn controls in a messy fight where you move and shoot simultaneously. The aim assist to try to compensate players with higher senses moving around by slowing the crosshair on enemies.
It actually will move on it’s own towards a target. The reason I have it tuned off. If I’m aiming at mccree and another enemy crosses left to right near him my crosshair will pull with movement.
When I played on console for a bit I turned it off because it really stinks to use especially on heroes like Moira
a Doomfist got extremely close to me while I was using my coal on my team and the aiming was trying to move towards him instead LOL it nearly messed me up… it’s really bad if an enemy team gets too close to you.

It kinda sorta just lazily pushes your crosshair toward a nearby target you’re aiming at. You can control how much it moves it by, though I imagine it’s to make up for a control stick’s lack of mobility and sort of stands in for extra motion you would have with a mouse.
That said, you still have less control than with a mouse.

I am a console player and I can tell you that if the aim assist actually pulled your crosshairs towards your target I would be a much better player! As it is at the moment I don’t think aim assist does anything helpful. I never messed with the settings, I just went with the recommended and never changed!
Aside from the fact it’s literally aim assist, the constant pulling my crosshairs off my intended target when two overlap is unbearable. Doubly as bad since I play support mainly.
It adjusts your crosshair to be closer to the target. Almost like aimbot.
It is. 100% friendly aim assist on Ana is insane, somebody even moves in your fov while you’re healing another teammate and your reticle definitely tries to pull your gun to it. It helps, but omg does it hinder. Imagine trying to heal Rein in the front line but your teammate Tracer blinks by or Sombra runs across your screen and your gun gets pulled off Rein to follow them. It causes deaths. It causes missed sleeps. Mistargetted nanos. Playing with it on and getting used to it was a huge mistake and I regret everything.
There are a few different types of aim assist in existence. I believe the type that Overwatch uses is that the aim speed moves slower when when the reticle is over an enemy.
How does this response make sense in relation to what I said?
