Real issue with 6v6 - double shield

The community seems to be overlooking the real issue with 6v6: we get garbage like double shield meta. Arguably one of the most annoying comps save goats, I have already encountered so much double shield it made me swap back to 5v5

Thoughts?

Orisa doesn’t have a shield so I don’t see how the ‘double shield’ is back

The only hero with a pretty consistent shield is basically Reinhardt.

Ramattra’s is on a CD and Sigma’s revolves around eating damage to get his back.

Winston is a dive hero so if he’s hanging out with his team he’s playing wrong.
(And I’ve been one of the people who say Winston’s shield needs an HP nerf or he needs less mobility if it’s gonna be that fat)

Any combination of Winston, Rein, Sigma, and Ram get you double shield. I’ve seen a lot of Ram Sigma, and it’s a bit frustrating.

(but, secretly, I wish Orisa would get her shield back anyway - she was my first main.)

Ramattra can penetrate the shields so it’s kinda pointless to stack shields

New double shield counter just dropped.

Roadhog + Ram + Junkrat + McCassidy + Lifeweaver = byebye shields

… because OW’s design of shields made them “too good”. That’s the root of the issue.

When OG was there, it was only Reinhardt with the shield. That was fine. He could have the OP shield and it was balanced. But when more heroes started having shields, it became a huge issue.

In OW shields are too good because they provide universal mitigation against almost every type of damage or attack, have no CD and are only limited by their “HP”. It’s just too good of an ability to be allowed for stacking. It will never work.

And LW! He’s good at shredding shields.

Unloads clip after clip into shields “this sucks! I’m going back to 5v5!”

Unloads clip after clip into raid boss tank “aaah yeaah so much better”

Oh no!
Orisa can completely negate any damage but the problem is obviously the 300 HP Winston shield!

Its most the idea that shield as a tank tool is so incredibly powerful, that almost every single team will have a shield of some sort. Many of them are augmented by a secondary shield tool.

Think Zarya or Dva defense matrix. Teams lacking these extra tools do not feel as powerful.

A shield can still be broken and the overpowered double shield meta can be beaten considering there is no tank with a deployable shield on a ridiculously low cooldown like OW1 orisa, along with ramattra that can bypass said shield and make it useless. Otherwise just give Winston the ability to ignore shields again

tehcnically the zarya bubble can be a shield

But when people talk about ‘double shield’ most refer to sigma orisa, zaryas bubble lasts for 2 seconds and isn’t really a shield in this conversation

I’d rather have double shield than flanking DPS support meta.

Number go up when shoot person but no go up when shoot shield.

Ramattra’s barrier is comparable in strength, uptime and cooldown to Orisa’s, with a similar CD tempo on top of it and he just happens to pair well with Sigma. Plus, there are other tanks with barriers, which can get annoying when combined on an enemy team.

I find that most of the people who complain about double shields are hitscan players who are so used to always being a solid pick that they refuse to switch.

Maybe try out Sym or Junkrat.

double shield has nothing on goats itll only get worse

Just because they have shields doesn’t mean they have the uptime to really be unbeatable like double shield was. The problem with double shield wasn’t just the two shields, it was the two shields, and the grasp, and the fortify, and then another two shields, then the immortality field, then another grasp and fortify and so on

All of the while they spam a billion damage from a distance. The DPS passive also means that when you get through the shields, and you will, you just die.
