There’s a lot of discourse on how 50 hps is too low, 60 too high, yadda yadda yadda. Most would be fine with 55, but still many swear 50 is the right number or they won’t settle for less than 60.
What if it related to the healing target’s total health pool? For squishies 200 hp and under, 50 hps. For every 50 hp over 200 the target has, 2 more hps or something along those lines, maybe with a cap at 60 hps. This would make it almost worthwhile to heal tanks, and since bigger health pools usually correspond to bigger hitboxes, it wouldn’t be overwhelming to outdamage her healing if you are focusing someone.
I agree that it’s not fun in Sigma ult, but given that Mercy is pretty bad at healing tanks and more hp usually means bigger body and easier for enemies to damage, I don’t see how slight differences in it would be on the same level of annoying as instantly taking half your health pool in damage.
I’m still slightly confused about the rationale behind giving her a buff at all? Isn’t she literally the most balanced support (subject to change with meta shift of course)?
I personally think she’s pretty good right now and have a lot of fun with her, but I agree that she feels restrictive in that she gets the most value from pocketing dps and it is difficult to keep up with other supports in terms of healing tanks.
She’s being played as an off-healer with disadvantages from both classes (off-healer and main healer). She’s being used for her utility now which is problematic because the other off-healers are better at providing this. Essentially, there’s no point of a Mercy unless you have a Pharah or Ashe because she is in the middle of two roles and is only really being used as a Damage boosting bot. A healing buff with make her less of a chore as she’s then fulfilling her intended role as a main healer.
OK. First off I’ll give you a tip: her gun is garbage so only use it in the rarest of cases. Secondly, even if she is a “chore to play”, is a flat buff to hps a solution to that?
She should heal more hp the longer her beam is attached to someone. Right now her healing is way too low considering every other healer can heal more than one hero at a time.
Before they nerfed her to 50 hps, you could actually do things OTHER than heal. such as boost and shoot. i used to get about 10 kills a game as Mercy and still get 10,000 healing or more. And that was fun.
This crap where you can never top anyone off and do something other than press her healing button is BORING.
Yeah, this is usually where the flat 55 hps buff conversation leads. Everyone is sort of take it or leave it. In the end, she doesn’t really need help at all healing squishies. But on the other hand, she’s too slow for tanks and it’s generally not worth it to heal them as much. I think the higher hps for tankier targets would be nice in that she doesn’t take forever to help top off tanks. And yeah, there’s always the second support, but it would still be nice to make her more versatile and able to be run with off-supports.
Wouldn’t this just further encourage the pocket playstyle if juggling targets gets less value?
Pulling her gun out has never been optimal, except in rare cases in a won fight/during valk. Damage boosting is nearly always better, and it has nearly the same inter-activeness as healing. You can still use her gun and play her non-optimally if you want, I guess. 50 → 55 HPS doesn’t change that.
Yes. Heaven forbid that we there’s something better for Mercy to do than left click on the Rein all game. There are other supports for that.
Sometimes, believe it or not. For you to get a rez off, you had to do it while alone except for 1 low health enemy which you had to kill. You can’t do that by pressing her heal or boost button. Further, her bullets are like the DVA pilot’s bullets. Smaller than Hanzo’s trees but big enough so that misses are rare.
Sure, it would give her a niche to provide more value than other supports. But at the cost of making her a total bore to play if yoy want the most value.
There’s still some reasons why she’s useful over other supports. There’s the obvious utilities of rez & damage boost. Her beam ignores barriers. She’s slippery and can constantly change position, making her very difficult to be flanked if you’re paying attention. She doesn’t need to look at her target and thus can constantly keep watch over the fight and check to make sure enemies aren’t sneaking around some other way. She can fly (okay so this one might just be beneficial because she’s fun.) Her only true downfall is helping heal tanks.
A design which is a chore and the fact she now appears to need a second main healer to run alongside when Mercy herself is supposed to still be a main healer isn’t what I’d call a suitable state. A simple buff won’t really fix her, she needs more help than that. After all, she was reworked on the premise that was she unfun to play against, so why shouldn’t feedback also not based entirely on statistics be considered from those who play as Mercy?
