Razer Kraken 7.1 - Not in Playback Devices

My headphones are not showing up in the Playback Devices. However, they have previously shown up before.

I used to be able to play OW and sound come through my headphones while my other monitor could play Netflix, You Tube with the sound coming through my speakers.

I have updated drivers, reset of my computer, tried different usb slots and looked into my device manager and tried fooling around in there. Still nothing though.

I installed Overwatch September 2017 and did a fresh install of it about 2 months ago. That’s the only thing that has changed.

Edit - Want to add that my Windows 10 is and has always detected my Razer Krakens, just not the Playback Devices in OW.

Edit x2 - Just logged into WoW and was able to change sound settings to what I want. WoW is recognizing my headphones.

Just to confirm, is your Razer Kraken 7.1 not listed as Disabled in the Windows Playback Devices settings?

  1. Right click the speaker icon in your Windows System Tray and select "Playback Devices.
  2. Look for your Razer Kraken 7.1 headset and see if it shows “Default Device”, “Default Comms Devices” or “Disabled”?
  3. If listed as disabled, right click and uncheck the “Disable” in the pop-up menu. May also want to switch from Comms to Default if needed.
  4. Relaunch Overwatch and check Playback Devices.

I doubt it is this, but I want to double check it.

Hi Wyoming,

My Kraken is currently “Default Device.” This will make it so all incoming sound will be on my headset.

Just want to be clear that what I’m looking for is to set my Windows “Default Device” to my speakers (which I have tried) and then have OW play in my headset by going into the game options and switching it in the “Playback Device” option.

This works in all my other games currently except OW.

Okay, please delete your Overwatch Settings_v0.ini file. Please be advised this will reset your Video, Sound, and Network options back to default (but not Control or Gameplay as those are saved to the account/server) so if needed, copy down your preferred settings on paper to switch back.

The default location for the file should be in

[your user name]/Documents/Overwatch/Settings/Settings_v0.ini

Then try to reset your default sound device in Overwatch.

I deleted the file out of game, restarted OW and tried to search for my headset under the games sound options “Playback Device.”

Kraken’s are still not showing up there like they did in the past.

Should I try a fresh install perhaps?

Did you manage to solve this? My headset is still not detected since the last patch and i’m sure it was before.

I have had this problem for over 1 year now with many emails back and forth with Razer support and 2 responds asking me troubleshooting questions which I returned but did not hear from them again. When I first set up the headset, 7.1 showed up there and then it dissapeared…just vanished. PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO FIX THIS ISSUE I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL…

For anyone experiencing this still…I just gave up on trying to fix it.

Whether it was an Overwatch issue on their end (deduction skills say it was) or Razer…I’ll never know.

I was able to get my razer barracuda 7.1 working again by unplugging it and uninstalling the software in control panel and then doing a fresh install.
