Looks good but did not expand any lore. Didnt even show us how she stopped the giant kishin, just told us that she did, and we already knew that. Compared to the other shorts which gave us more insight on the lore of overwatch this was very lackluster.
All we know is that the Kishin has minions now and dva has a fanboy for backup. It didnt give us anything new really. We already knew there was more then 1 MEKA pilot. We already knew D.va stopped the kishin, we already knew she was famous. Alot of missed opportunity. First time watching it i pretty much could guess what would happen next and it was very predictable. The teaser in 2016 and her character description already covered most of what we just saw.
agreed. looked nice, but felt like it was for pre-teens. The tiniest glimpse of character shines through for just a second, but then D.va remembers she’s godlike and wins by herself. Dude was just there for ship fuel far as I’m concerned. D.va even pretends it hurts when the mech is damaged?? Her injuries were 100% hitting the water (which probs should have killed her, not to mention it was at night and pretty far out making her super hard to find). Maybe have her actually lose and show some other mechs roll in and help before they do to much damage. Have her dumb mistakes and overconfidence have actual consequences. Rein got a buttload of peeps killed for his move.
Also, but this is a pet peeve, the friggin omnic just sits there and stares at her instead of just reaching through the HUGE GAPS NEXT TO HER SCREEN GLASS and just crushing her… it was literally looking right at the front of the mecha all of 2 feet away. No wonder the omnic lost the war they are friggin dumb. A band of children with screwdrivers could have fought of this “terrible menace”
It was well-animated, but D.Va’s backstory is kind of boring. The problem with her is that she’s basically isolated from the entire rest of the cast. Other characters get shorts that focus exclusively on them, but it feels like it adds to the whole game because the character is part of something bigger. D.Va is just D.Va.
So i guess… 4/10? Kind of an arbitrary number though.
It is one of my new favorites, and it may not have expanded the lore, but it did expand D.Va. We have always known D.Va as the gamer character who is super confident and sees everything as a game or something to do with her fans.
This short showed a different side of the character. It showed that all the fame and attention she has gotten from protecting people has put a lot of pressure on her and though she may seem confident she feels like she won’t be able to protect everyone in the future, I noticed this when she was looking at the scratch on her Meka, like if she can get scratched then she can get taken out. She also says how the enemy is always adapting. This is why she would rather work at fixing her Meka then go out eating or just take time off. She feels the wight of everyone relying on her and she does not want to let anyone down, so she works hard to stay two steps ahead of the enemy.
D.Va acts confident infornt of the cameras because she wants everyone who is relying on her to feel safe, but when she is with her closest friend she can stop acting and talk about her concerns.
I really like this side of D.Va, it makes her in game persona feel less childish and more selfless. She does the act for her fans and for her city. We know she does not really care about the fame.
7/10. I like this side of D.va more. She gave up on spot lights, fancy restaurants and media interviews to fix her meka just in case the omnics attack her city.
I like the serious D.va more than “Gamer, fan service” D.va…
i wish this short did go into dva’s past history a bit more but i think it wasnt too bad. we learned that shes probably always liked to tinker with gizmos and her either friend or brother has hung in there with her. i wish we had seen more of the other meka pilots to see how her relationship with them is, since she seemed really concerned about the girl that said she got hit. its refreshing to see that shes not just about the ‘glitz and glam’ side of things, but she takes her job seriously and is learning to rely on others.
also i REEEAALLY hope we get more meka pilots as playable characters. even if its just for an event:sob:
D.Va is among the “New” Heroes, these are the heroes that were born during the final days of OW or after it disbanded. She might’ve been recruited if OW had not disbanded. However she lives in Korea, providing protecting from a regenerating Omnic that attacks often. She’s busy with her own thing.
It’s a short about her, so I would think it would focus on her.
You do realize that the entire setting for the animation had to be built from nothing. They had no map to go off of that was already in game. Also water is not exactly the best to animate with, cause it can glitch out and act strange.
I really liked it! It went over a lot that we knew, yeah, but it was nice that we got to actually see what she experiences. It was also nice seeing how everything was set up for her, with her base and having help. The action was really fun and I loved the animation.
10/10 for this one , 10/10 for the other one - I JUST LOVE THE OVERWATCH CINEMATICS.
Why do I like D.Va’s so much? Besides being one of my favorite heroes in the game - the animated short shows other side of her personality. She’s not just a teenage girl who loves playing video games. The cinematic showed her as Caring, Smart , Cheerful.I like how they showed her human side. And I really loved the whole cinematic. The Mech battle was 100000000/10. Looking forward to more Animated short in the near future. (Plus , for the one seeking more Lore - maybe the new Busan map will provide you with clues and information about D.Va)
Made me like D.Va as a character even more, especially since she’s one of my top three heroes to play. Shows that she’s more than her celebrity appearance. I think all the hate is a little much, but you know what opinions are like
i will agree that I don’t see why this is the only short in like a year. They could literally do an Overwatch series and not run out of ideas.
