I want to voice some complaints and personal opinions about ranked this season/since OW2 launched. I will divide this into two sections, one for opinions and one for data/facts.
Let’s start out with the facts, as those are undisputable. In overwatch 1, I often waited 15-50 minutes for a match, and that was miserable. In Overwatch 1 to I placed masters 3 on my main account in that last season before Overwatch 2. This season I am bronze 2. This season as a a bronze 2, I have a 94% win rate on my main. I have won my last 20 games in a row, and have a record of 60/64 games won. I have not gone up more than 1 rank this season. I actually went down to bronze 3 and back to bronze 2 after going 20-0. Thats 19 wins before a change of 1 was applied to my rank. Not only am I going on 20 game winstreaks and not ranking up, I am facing Grandmaster 1-2 player lobbies more than 1/2 the matches I played this season. The other half are between bronze and gold. I can get this info by looking at the public profiles of the players in the lobby. In overwatch 1, I may have had LONG queue times, but I had a working ranked system. As for how I ended up in bronze, on this account, at the start of EVERY overwatch 2 rank reset, I have been reset to bronze 5. Last season I climbed to platinum in the very small amount of time I had to play the game (25-30 hours of playtime due to work). I still got reset to bronze 5 at the start of season 3, only this season, due to a work injury, I have had nothing but time to play, and already put in 12 hours, yet am not ranking up. Last season I went from bronze 5 to platinum 2 in 12 hours last season, this season from bronze 5 to bronze 2.
Now for the opinions;
While I like the idea of having new stuff regularly in the game (live service), as well as short queue times, the implementation needs fixing. I cant keep playing a game that introduces a bug that makes the game unplayable every season. I really love this game, but I can’t keep supporting this when alternatives like apex are doing everything this game does but the implementation is just better. It seems like the overwatch team is overworked and undervalued by big daddy blizzard. They make promises, and just can’t keep them, and knowing the industry, I don’t blame the team. I blame the fact that are probably told to over promise and know they will under deliver but can’t promise less because if they do it looks like its OW 1 all over again. What this looks like to me, is the Overwatch team NEEDS more people/developers, and ultimately that’s not going to happen in time to save this game from repeating the route it went down in ow1. The PR for Activision blizzard is horrible, which means hiring can’t be going to well, even when they do get the funds to hire. They should have gotten those funds when they were acquired by microsoft, but new positions were not opened to the degree needed. My point is, I will be leaving this game for greener, more stable/safer pastures. I really wish I could stay, but I will not until this loop of game death is fixed. Blizzard tried to update an IP, over promises, under delivers, gets negative pr, can’t hire new devs, still needs to update the game, and over promises and under delivers, rinse and repeat.
Goodby Overwatch, I wish you the best, but my time is better spent in games I can play until you die or are healed.
