Ranked open queue in ow2?

I’m curious how this will work with the super strong tanks. Have they addressed this at all? / Maybe ranked open queue is getting removed or reworked?

I think they will change something

It’s open queue. It is what it is. That’s the whole point. You wanna play 5 tanks? Go for it. You wanna play 5 dps? Go for it. You wanna mix and match? Go for it. That’s the point.

Yep, they said they had announcements around how matches happened, but then went strangely silent.

They will be doing something here.

I don’t think they’ve said anything on the subject. My guess is that those of us who decide to queue for this will simply have to adjust to the new paradigm. Basically, what Trilly said above.

The idea of that worked a bit better in ow1. It doesn’t really work in ow2

It works just fine, what do you mean?

There is no “issue”. The game is balanced around 5v5. Open queue is open queue. They dont balance also for DM so you have the choice of playing it or leaving the mode alone.

I mean it barely works now. People lock dps because they’re fun but realistically tanks are pretty much just better dps already. :man_shrugging:

Probably because the OW2 roles are less balanced, or more specifically, tanks are so much better compared to the other roles.

I’ve played a bit of higher level OQ in OW1 and the meta is usually 2-2-2, but it doesn’t truly matter a lot of the time going +/- one or two of the roles because the roles really aren’t different enough in power to break the game by itself. Tanks are a bit better, but you can compensate by just playing slightly better on DPS or support. My impression of OW2 is that it would pretty much force a team to play 2-3 tanks in order to be viable in a competitive sense.

I think people expect that to happen but the reality is people aren’t always going to default to that. Like you said, GOATs or even 4 tanks is super powerful in OW1 yet I don’t see that very often at all. Does it sometimes happen? Yes. Is it a problem? No. OW2 will play exactly the same because the people playing it are exactly the same; heavily favouring dps heroes no matter how strong tanks are.

I hope they keep it, because most of my group chat are tank players and Open Queue will be awesome for us

I could see them keeping for for Quickplay Open Queue.

But I could see them going for Role Limits in Competitive Open Queue.

The placements are gonna be torture.

Can’t wait. Should be fun.

I still have some hair left.

Maybe they could do something like reduce tank hp for OQ only? Other wise I imagine every game will be 3 tanks.

I’m fully ready for mega-GOATS in OQ

As a D.Va main this is very good news

You know, as much as people love to rag on OQ, it feels like a lot of people don’t actually play it in OW1. You get all these horror stories about “OPEN QUEUE SUCKS, IT’S ALWAYS 5 DPS AND ME DOING THE ONE ROLE NO ONE ELSE WANTS TO!” but given that OQ is primarily where I play ranked, that’s really never the case in my experience. At least as a high plat player in OQ. Like yeah, occasionally you’ll get the team of derps, but it’s pretty rare that I’m starved for a tank or a healer. Hell, I usually run in to more healer mains there than I do DPS mains. I rarely ever solo heal the match, and it’s rare that we’re solo tanked as well. There’s also times when people say, “As a rule of thumb, open queue rank is like 500 SR above where you belong.” and I don’t see this being true, at all. I actually find my match quality is a lot worse in role queue, like people don’t actually know their roles properly (almost as if they’re, y’know, farming passes) and it’s usually a lot easier to rank up and carry over there. But my experience may differ, ig.

I feel OQ in OW2 will end up like it did in beta. No one instalocking all dps or tanks, and will usually end up in a 2/1/2 or a 2/2/1 situation. And those games in beta, again for me at least, went pretty well. I have high hopes for it.

Edit: I should also point out that yeah. T500 in OQ starts in diamond, but it’s still difficult to get there anyways. We have a smaller player pool over here, and the secret to climbing properly is to learn how to juggle your avoids, take breaks between matches if you need to avoid more than 3 idiots at a time, or straight up don’t play OQ for a few hours until more people are on (I play extreme off hours US time, so like 2a-7a). The reason being is that for whatever reason, tilted role queue’rs tend to play OQ to try and ‘save’ their ‘main SR’, and they drag the match quality down. Some days are worse than others. Also, it’s best not to play during the end of the season when people just show up for their 10 placements. The game quality drops hard.

One of biggest concerns I have with OW2

And really it goes beyond OQ because the same issue is going to apply to pretty much everything in the arcade and the devs have yet to say a single thing about how they are going to handle modes that aren’t 122 locked
