Lately the competitive games are full of smurfs, trolls, hackers, boosting accounts … I will quit playing some weeks because this is boring af. For OW2 hope there is some solutions to resolve this porblems if is not the game will die twice.
Yes and the algorithmic handicapping certainly doesn’t help matters.
I do hope things are resolved for the second game!
You people just won’t miss any opportunity to mention this, will you? The matchmaker definitely won’t be reworked, better you accept the fact now that you are just not as good as you think.
Ranked has progressively got worse for years, very few people actually want to try to win games or take them seriously, mix that in with terrible balancing and lack of content means means for a very bad experience.
Half the time it’s not even anything YOU can do to turn around the game, you’re simply at the mercy of of team mates
Nothing will change with OW2 maybe even worse.
Well ranked system is just terrible - doesnt matter which side you look at it from, and as such should be called out in every single thread and rubbed into devs team face. A stone in your shoe should not feel comfortable until you take it out.
For ages now people have been asking for player preformance based SR gains and losses, not win - loss related SR gain. Some will defend that its ‘team game’ and as such you are being rewarded or punished as a team - but with peak sarcasm, assembling 6 randoms does not make a team, but just 6 individuals who happen to be on the same lobby at the same time.
Unfortunately nothing will be done to resolve those issues.
^ Sadly this as well.
And this is completely false. That’s awesome you are placed where you feel you should be. Must be nice to get good team rng. I love though how you think everyone has that kind of luck. Hate to break it to you but there are plenty of us who get stuck with horrible players a lot more than others. I can give you a list of the players I get the majority of and I don’t go from being Diamond for many seasons pre-rq to 2 ranks lower overnight.
How is it terrible?
This is a thing up until masters.
Are you saying I am at my rank because I got lucky? How do you explain that currently 3 of my accounts are GM and 6 more in high masters? How do you explain that smurfs in general can push to their main Sr rank within just a few hours of play time?
Just stop making these ridiculous excuses.
What you are refering to happens until diamond, not masters, and thats not what I’m talking about in previous comment. Its SR gains possiblity on lost games and possibility to lose sr on won games, all based on personal preformance. Current system will reward you sr even if you basically semi afk whole game, if your teammates end up winning the match.
How is it terrible ? Am I supposed to write a 3 part 400 pages books elaboration on this or ? Because I would have so much to say, yet won’t because I’m lazy to actually write it down unless I would happend to talk to a dev directly or someone in charge.
Smurfs in general climb because they’re good enough to carry games and climb quickly, the average player trying to improve isn’t going to have the skills to carry every game, add that in with the RNG of ranked make it much harder to climb, dont get me wrong there’s going to be occasions where you’re simply not good enough but there’s also going to be many games that are simply unwinnable because of your team mates
Yea, okay. How would such a system even look like? Based on KD, accuracy, objective time? It seems like a pretty complex proposal that does not really bring anything better to the table than what we currently have. Besides, a system that rewards Sr for personal performance could be abused by playing for each of these stats. This would contribute to an even worse ranked experience.
In the current system, personal performance is only very slightly rewarded that’s true. But if you consistently play better than your team mates, you will climb assuming you played enough games. So personal performance is indirectly rewarded as well.
I mean, those opponents deserve the loss if they lose 6v5 and your team definitely deserve the win. If the Semi-Afker does this in a fair amount of matches though he will certainly derank, so not an issue
True, but I didn’t start out in GM. When I first placed on console I was placed in 2100 in season 4. In season 11, I switched to PC and grinded my way up. I acknowledged my mistakes and tried to improve. So I was subject to the same problems as all of the people complaining about the MM.
Anyone can do what I did, you just need to get rid of this weird mindset that the system is out to get you.
Absolutely, I am not denying that the matchmaker isn’t perfect. I have accepted that about 30% of my games are out of my control, the rest is on me.
Simplified meaning of this sentence is - if you waste enough time playing through unwinnable games, throwing people in your games, tilters, smurfs, leavers and so on.
Such system already exists for the overwatch league and it was made by IBM. Average stats are taken into account, then compared to the rest of the lobby on same role, therefore you have rank 1,2,3 and 4 for each lobby after every game. Next modifier to that is average stats for certain X SR on that particular hero per 10 mins. It would prevent people from grinding stats, but would also punish throwers, and reward smurfs with far more sr per game, thus ruining way less games. Another thing is players would not tilt because of losses, as long as you preform in the top half of the lobby.
I do think comp in OW should be about winning rather than stats. This does cause issues but no system would ever be perfect and please everybody
Those of you that want a different comp experience should consider battle royales tbh. They are about stats and you can rank up without finishing first. Its easier to carry a team too
Uh, most of your waking life is invested in Overwatch?
Are you expecting to rank up twice after ten games? Improving and ranking up will take it’s time in this game, as is the case in pretty much any competitive game.
I have around 2500-3000h since season 4.
A modifier for the wins could be added, but you want to solve toxicity, flaming and so on. There is the way, you get as much as you deserve by own gameplay, not more not less.
Not wrong, just dont feel like playing at all when you are in a game that you know is not winnable, or you have a thrower on own team. You know say game lasts 20 mins and you sit in queue for another 10 - then after game you need another 10 min queue for next game, thats basiacally 40 mins lost until you enter a potencially relevant game. Is this not a problem ?
Well they do have that in battle royales like Apex legends. I think it makes more sense there since there are more than 2 teams and its not just about winning or losing the match
It seems like the devs do want OW to focus on winning rather than personal stats, since its two teams competing head to head to win
To Diamond only actually.
So true
SR/MMR also exists in Valorant as well.
Even a GM smurf in gold can’t rank up twice in 10 games (on an aged account).
The end product is one of the 2 - you reward personal preformance, and lower toxicity and flaming, or you punish personal preformance in stead of team suffering same result as a whole, in which case those from whom SR is taken away from undeservingly will embrace toxicity and flaming, but in that case the game should encourage it, just like TF2 did - where you had an achivement for making someone quit the game.
Punishing individuals for something that is out of their control, while asking not to be toxic is just delusional.
On a 2nd note:

It seems like the devs do want OW to focus on winning rather than personal stats, since its two teams competing head to head to win
it is far easier to grind stats in a winning fights thus winning team should in the most times have overall better stats and thus be better individuals in a lobby (90% of time basically)
