doesn’t make sense tho because i’ve been 5/0-5/3-5/1 and i’ve stayed the same rank. The cherry on top was that the average rank of the match kept increasing

That we don’t know is a problem unto itself. The game almost forces you to play just for the joy of gaming. Hoping for rewards is asking to get let down, imo. Sad stuff.
It’s still just win/loss but they have an expectation about a given match.
In the 5-1 scenario, you were supposed to win every match because random numbers stacked (like flipping heads 6 times in a row - it happens) and you went against people who were in your division but ranked lower for all 6 games.
It’s still just win/loss that determines your rank but expectations of the system change how many points you gain or lose.
You were sitting very close to the botton of your current rank. You got almost nothing for each of the 5 wins, and then a big loss of points for the one loss that (in their worthless system’s opinion) you were supposed to win easily because of a significant rank difference.
Elo, which they use, is scientifically proven to be almost perfectly random, but they use a Bayesian weighting system to stabilize it so it appears less random than it factually and really is.
Microsoft bought them now and they could yank the old Elo system and put in Microsoft’s “TrueSkill” which is vastly superior. Not perfect, but VASTLY superior.
That’s really the only hope for this game ever being reasonably accurately ranked. Their current system is slightly functional for higher ranks like yours and above but utterly broken for lower ranks. It can’t handle the large variance in skill level down there at all.
With much closer skill of the players it actually is a little better than random up higher.

I was talking about Blizzard, they said they did something and it’s obvious they did nothing, they are just talking and people need to start not believing them if they don’t want to be constantly disappointed by them.
What was your last 20-30 games record? There should be a los streak or something that put your MMR in depths. 5-1 downranking means you have your MMR way below your SR already. You just didn’t rank down beforehand for some reason.
Ohh i see… last i heard they said they took out skill based and stats for purely win lose but thats not accurate still i belive my alt account has 90 win rate in 3 hours of play ranked on sombra to learn her new kit and is only diamond 1 i feel it should have placed higher and progressed faster

Performance doesn’t matter anymore, but it’s obvious team average must play into it still or it would be 100% consistent. You probably still lose more SR when you lose to a team who is numerically worse than yours and vice versa. Winstreaks are also going to mess with all this they went pretty anti smurf nowadays. Doesn’t help that the system is so vague you can be 1 SR from a rank up/derank pushing you further/lower than you expected.
