Rank Shaming on the Forums and in Overwatch

Interesting that they would do that. I mean, do they want more support heroes to be nerfed? Seems counter productive .

At least I dont see them calling Winston a hardcounter to Widow…just saying.

No because a lot of these “support stans” only stan the easy supports. You will typically not see any defense of Ana, Lucio, Zen because those aren’t the characters these players play. They will get offered token support if the narrative is “Devs hate supports” and people want to use them to bolster some other argument. But these players do not actually care about their balance.

Just compare the outcry to anytime Ana, Zen, Lucio has been nerfed to any proposed changes to Mercy, Moira, Brig. The differences in complaining is always huge because the forums tends to skew towards the support mains who aren’t gungho about mechanical skill.

Might be because I’m a little sleepy but you have to elaborate a bit more for me

Save you are assuming that since a “low rank” is not as high as you are that they MUST NOT have the same level of knowledge. You don’t know that and to assume it is nothing short of despicable gate keeping nonsense.

When going into a discussion the worst thing you can do is assume that someone is ignorant. It shuts down all potential conversation and turns it into a measuring contest with no purpose.

Assuming the worst of someone from the get go is a recipe for echo chambers.

No. It shows you can put it into PRACTICE. Which is a stark difference. Meaning I can very well lack the ability to bring what I know to bear in an actual game of overwatch but understand what I am talking about despite that.

Needs to be the OWL champions only, the rest are losers and chokers like NYXL.

No. It needs to be the best performing player ON the champion team. The rest are just boosted.

If someone can’t make an argument without resorting to rank shaming, they clearly don’t have much of an argument to begin with. Ignore them.

When the 40 dps nerf came along everyone wanted a hitbox reduction instead of these and this even before the nerfs, stop assuming every moira players so this, only dps moiras do this thins.

How did this get from “brig and moira” were designed for low ranks, to you don’t want them nerfed. Can’t you find valuable argument for your wild assumptions anymore??? Or are you just saying ok to the oligarchy.

I used to respect your point of view… What a shame.

It does though. It shows to what extent I can interact with you in a conversation. People can be very similar and know the core concept of the game, but every rank experiences a slight difference that others don’t and that’s what I’m getting at. I was gold s3, knew not even a fraction of what I know now.

I’M NOT RANK SHAMING WITH WHAT I JUST SAID (just making it clear), I’m just supporting your idea by incorporating my own factual ideology. We all grow and practice, but ranks continuously change how a person thinks.

But one does not inherently need to experience a higher rank to understand how things work. Because one can observe it from a 3rd party perspective, break it down, and incorporate that knowledge into a discussion.

Exactly, you agree with the following statement you didn’t quote. They know the concept of the game, the basics and more. Exactly what I’m trying to prove and you’re trying to prove simultaneously.

I’m not fighting this man, you’re just adding onto my argument and I’m in full support of yours.

Usually rank shaming comes about when someone has no idea what they’re talking about, and they have no firm reason behind their assertions, so they resort to a “Well I’m awesome therefore I’m right”. It’s a complete non-argument that stems from the hubris of thinking that somehow playing a lot of one aspect of one mode of a video game somehow makes you an expert on all modes across all regions. It doesn’t. That you sit atop a mountain makes you only an expert on the temperature at the top of the mountain, not the temperature all the way down. Protip: you want to know what the temperature is about 3,000 meters below? Ask the people there; You don’t get to speak for them.

And I recognize your name. I saw the exchange you had with that one individual who thought he was the master of the game because of his little trophy. It is apparently a common affliction for those who get to the top, because the “I’m a GM and everything I say is awesome and perfect” is a common sight on the forums.

And oddly enough, many (not most, but many) of them don’t have the slightest clue what they’re talking about. But you’ll never be able to open their eyes to it, because hey they spent about 400 hours clawing and scratching their way to the top of a ranked mode in a videogame, and that has to mean something, right? They’re convinced that they’re all taking part in a “Ready Player One” scenario and they’ve earned or inherited the right to dictate the direction of the game, by themselves, because they reached something close to the top.

Making an impassioned post asking these people to kindly remove their head from their sitting space isn’t going to get you anywhere either. You’ll never break their hubris.

I mean, heck, the ninth post tried to compare playing a video game a lot to getting a doctorate from about 8 or so years of university study. That’s how far their head is in their sitting space. You’re never going to get that to budge no matter how hard you try.

(by the way, one of the most common causes of medical incidents is doctors making mistakes and not taking patient complaints seriously. If you’re going to cite a field of work or study in an effort to award yourself prestige, perhaps try to cite one where hubris isn’t a leading cause of death?)

It kinda does mean that though. Unless the logic of what you’re saying stands on its own. But that’s not always the case.

I think I wrote that some where in this topic, but I agree, I dont know you, you don’t know me. So argument is really meaningless, it s like trying to talk some sense into a gold team to avoid running head first into a fortified bastion comp, it’s a fruitless endeavors.

No one really cares who you are or what you have to say until you have been proven. It’s not elitist, not gate keep, it’s just a normal course of action. Real life works the same way btw, everything is built upon “one’s credential”

Yes because they actually received a worse nerf than the one people originally asked for. People do the 5 stages of grief for balance changes and I always see the “bargaining stage” once people see a nasty nerf. People are doing the same thing now that Brig is receiving a nerf. It went from “Brig is bad” to “Brig doesn’t need any changes” to “Brig needs changes but this wasn’t the right one”. The last thing I partially agree with but it’s hilarious how quickly the people parroting the first two has switched up.

I spend far too much time on these forums and I’ve had far too many debates with people who talk about “Moira’s hitbox needs to be large to counter mobility” to accept your revisionist history. I’ve lived out these conversations time and time again and people were against any Moira changes at all, saying that she’s fine.

Take your feelings out of this and you will again, because you’re in your feelings right now.

Nope, main moira’s were ok with this since the start, not dps moira’s. Also do you have problems shooting at her while she’s easy aiming you? Because I don’t know why you’re making this argument anymore. A lot of people are biased, on these forums, on the reddit forums etc… Just like some genji mains kept crying until he received a buff.

No, absolutely not. I think you’re just trying to prove your point even if it means being delusional. Especially with the argument of: “they designed berif cause low ranks wanted brig”, we wanted a counter not a warfare tank.

Good luck with your revisionist history, I know what I saw. I’ve had the conversations and I’ve seen the likes.

Yep the above sounds like a typical excuse to when people would say her hitbox needs to be lowered. It’s funny how you’re parroting it word for word and still saying the above wasn’t said.

Wanted a counter not a warfare tank, yet these same players had to be dragged kicking and screaming throughout her nerfs when it was beyond obvious how broken she was? And you’re accusing other people of being delusional?

There was only one set of players defending how broken Brig was and complaining she would be trash and a throw pick after the nerfs. Seek help.

If they’re old posters overbuff will always reveal the truth. A surprising number of people rank shaming turn out to be slow tier ironically.

People fall for this all the time

It wasn’t beyond obvious it was just op, it was not brig 1.0 it was just armor.

Just like those who over argue when their hero is nerfed just a tiny bit, doom mains crying for a 0.5 delay.

Them, me or you?
