Rank seperation

I would love if the forums stayed the same
But
They added a bronze/silver/gold etc lobby that you could only post in if your account was that actual rank and you couldn’t access any of the other lobbies.

It would just be nice to discuss balance with players of the same skill level.

As of right now the forums has bronze players telling Gm players and gm players telling bronze players how things should be done and how balance should be when they are two completely different walks of life.

Makes balance topics a cesspool imo but I really don’t expect this to happen I just thought it would be interesting knowing that you are discussing the game with players experiencing the game in a similar way.

It’s hard to express balance ideas when people commenting on it may or may not EVER experience it in the same way and therefore will never understand your perspective

What a terrible idea

It very well might be but I’m glad you said it with such grace lol.

Allow me to repay the favor.
You’re just mad you’d be stuck talking to silver players

Try this
“Its probably not a good idea because “

And give some reasons instead of being a dunce

Love youuuuu

I know that it sounds crazy, but the forum is not really for balance discussions, much less than ranked discussions divided by rank. No one reads them and people are often very emotional when they come to the forum, because they lost the game again, because a Gengi could not kill a Moiwa.

It kind of has always been discussing balance though.

To say that it’s not what the forums are for isn’t exactly true

It was, but nowadays its more like a vibe check. There are a lot of people who are immune to logic and facts. Its mainly about feelings, like this thread.

Why do you think its a good idea to divide discussions by rank? High ranked players can be as delusional as low rank player.

Because when someone that plays at a high rank and encounters certain problems that very well need addressing, players at lower ranks most likely won’t see these problems and chime in as if it’s never an issue

And vice versa.

Balance discussions between vastly different skill levels are totally different conversations and when you have the balance discussion between every rank you’ll never find common ground to solve anything

Again not necessary but I find when I discuss balance with my peers it’s much easier to talk about when we all experience the same things

Balance affects everyone the same, though, so what good would that do?

GMs and Silvers play the exact same game, it just makes sense for balance discussions to happen between those groups instead of segregating them.

Ignore those guys and just talk to the ones that seem to understand your perspective, I guess :woman_shrugging: It’s a forum, you can choose whose posts you read, whose posts you reply to and whose posts you ignore. Not that I think it’s good to do when discussing balance (see reason above), but it’s an option.

This is how echo chambers start

I want differing opinions

Just don’t want to filter through players that never experience it

Again I don’t really care though

Echo chambers start when you ignore dissenting opinions (don’t even think ignoring itself warrants an echo chamber, but that’s another topic, I guess), not when you ignore opinions based on the person not having the necessary experience to have an opinion. Or when they’re stupid, or whatever, we all do that every day

Just don’t ignore every opinion you don’t like (which is not what I proposed at all, btw) and there we go :+1:

They did???

This is pretty contradictory

Yes, I said it with grace… but I guess if I need to explain why it’s a terrible idea, I shouldn’t be surprised you decided to throw a fit.

But - fine, let me briefly summarize it with a “what would happen, if…”

Exhibit 1:
– Poster A: I have an issue <…>!
– Poster B: You’re just bronze, who cares, L2P!..
– Poster C: Go back to your reservation of bronze newbs, LoL!
– Poster D: Sigh… why do we even allow these bronze noobs outside of their bronze zoo subforum?..

Exhibit 2:
– Poster A: Hey, subforum, I have an issue <…>!
– Poster B: Yeah, you’re cooking, I have it too!
– Poster C: I know, right!
– Poster D: All of us are having the issue, the balance is wrong, we need to complain more about it!

Now, if you still can't take the hint of what are fundamental issues with this as illustrated in these examples, I'm afraid I can't help it.

It’s probably not a good idea because, people that can’t properly articulate thoughts would be in an “elo hell” of the forums and quit posting, providing those of us that can with no entertainment at all.

dissenting opinion != opinion of a person that doesn’t understand your perspective

My suggestion is to only ignore the latter, but to pay attention to those that dissent while understanding where you’re coming from (or trying to, that’s often worth just as much).

Why are you so upset

Thanks for the input

Thanks for the clarification

Mmm… more like - finding it humorous to see that your posts are the best example of why the idea is terrible. You immediately jumped to guessing my rank and used “silver” as a derogatory term:

(quoted it here in case you decide to back-pedal later). So, silver players are beneath others and deserve to be used as an insult? Way to go with promoting an idea of rank segregation, good job.

There are some logistical issues:

  1. Not everyone has played competitive and received a rank.
  2. If you’re on the bubble for a rank, you could end up being able to post in (for example) Silver one day, but not the next.
  3. Not clear how big the various player pools are (i.e., does each rank have enough representatives on the forum to foster a robust discussion).
  4. Very easy to manipulate participation in the lower ranks - just create a new account.

If you think something’s bad just say why, you’re very hostile

I actually don’t think that’s your rank as I stated with that I was just returning the favour of your hostility to show you how it feels.

And you’re still hostile anyways with all your responses

So thank you for explaining why you didn’t like the idea but all the other BS is just childish

I don’t necessarily think separating people by rank is a good idea. One because there are just fewer people in GM or Bronze. Either end of the spectrum would be a pretty dead forum. The second reason is that I don’t necessarily think that people can’t have informed discussions even when they don’t share a rank.

The problems that I see in discussions are usually more to do with:

  • People are biased towards or against certain heroes and unwilling or unable to separate their opinions from their bias.
  • People are unfamiliar with the perspective of certain heroes because they’ve never really played them.
  • Console vs PC is actually a big one because there are definitely some heroes better or worse on console. The game plays differently there.
  • Conspiracy theories about everything that can be used as an excuse for why something isn’t their fault.
