Rank reset every season is the worst idea ever

Blizzard basically “secretly” forces you to grind.

You are Masters 1 in all roles at 19:55? Too bad, 5 minutes later you are Diamond 4.

Grind whole season back and get reset again.

What is the point? If they reset ranks, then atleast give massive rewards for each division to make the grind not pointless.

Why would i want to grind around 20 hours every season back to rank which i always had in ow1?

Just keep our rank and then we either cant keep it or drop or we push ever higher.

Comp lost every single piece of interest i had in it since this resetting change. Its a crap now.

I agree with your premise, largely because the reset is fake and you are facing the same people anyway regardless of when you queue, but I do take issue with the comment that it takes “all season”. It should take you around 21 wins (28 at most) to get back where you were which is hardly “all season”. Now lets be clear it is still a terrible system and was terrible when they did it to 3900+ players and despite the near universal feedback from high ranked players on how much they hated this system Blizzard still thought the general public would love it.

I think the problem is the seasons are too short. Why play when dozens of matches worth of grinding will be taken away in a month anyway

it is not that the idea is bad but the execution.

rank reset gives the people a reason to play comp so they don’t just get boosted to X rank and never touch it again or just make 1000 unranked to GM accounts.

The problem is lack of any rewards to make you want to grind for it every season.

Why do you care about the validation numbers in this game? You should only care about your own skill. Blizzard can plat me every season but I still keep my aim.

you dont need to grind the whole season, more like 1-3 sessions depending on how many games you play per session. in both season 1 and 2, the reset has been super inconsequential unless you play sub 30 games per season. but if you do, they also reset you less.

i am not a fan of this reset, dont get me wrong, precisely because it is so inconsequential. its pointless, it confuses people and initially it frustrated many. they should just get rid of it entirely.

well, i for one dont need rewards for grinding comp. i think the title is a nice incentive and validation of your past seasons peak rank. for me if i hit a new alltime peak, thats a huuuge feeling. i still remember how i felt hitting diamond for the first time back in season 3 ow1. and even more i remember the first time i hit masters on tank, after 32 or so seasons in diamond/high plat. it meant the world to me for some time. because its not about the destination ultimately, but the journey. but i sure would love exclusive icons per elo or even exclusive skins for the highest ranks. lol did something like that back when i still played it and it sure did motivate me.

The fact it’s a rank reset and not an MMR reset means that it’s purely a way to drive engagement.

They have admitted this themselves.

It is a disingenuous system. The goal is to ensure people are always climbing up rather than going up and down but it obviously doesn’t work.

It means that rank has lost its meaning

Yeah they forget the difference between making players want to play/grind and forcing them to play/grind.
fun isn’t priority anymore.
Its all about forcing playtime and money.

Spread this video everywhere, it elaborates the stupidity of this new system they’ve implemented. 1 million views and devs would stand no chance but revert it or fix either way.

I was Plat 4 support last season, got deranked to silver 2.
Played like 15 really unfun and stressful matches to get my 7 wins and only got a rank up to silver 1.
I didn’t feel a sense of accomplishment or progress, I felt robbed of my time.
Never touching comp again until they balance the game and make support fun to play.

Yeah im deffs not coming back for s3 if they do it again.

thats 21 wins for each role. which is 63 wins and ur obviously not gonna have a 100% winrate so its closer to 100 games until ur back to where u were in S1

The problem is, everyone else has dropped too. You aren’t being asked to get quick wins in low ranks. You’re asked to get wins against people of your rank who have been forced down to a fake rank but are actually higher.

Since the people around you are your level, just dropped for absolutely no reason, you’re already at 50% winrate in low ranks even if you should be higher

They ruined ranked. If you force people down, make it not by much, and make it real so they can climb back fast.

Why should I be playing diamonds who are fake golds while I’m in gold in order to get back to diamond, where I was in OW1? Let me fight golds so the system gets I should not be there, fast.

…this. Also I think it’s more of an attempt to see some ‘movement’ each season vs being +/- 1 or 2 mini-ranks (so essentially treading water each season)…?

…ultimately, I find the idea of ‘grinding’ ladder pointless anyway, either you’ve improved enough to rapidly climb to a higher rank that matches your skill growth, or you haven’t. Ladder is more a ‘test’ to see where the game ranks you and then play comp because the matches (generally) are more serious than QP…

For me , I’m now at 35 wins (completed 5 sets) with a 50% win rate on Tank and still didn’t get back to where I was last season .

I’m losing my mind trying to get back to where I finished last season .

I’ll be curious what they do next season. If I’m going to drop even further since I can’t be bothered with the absolute trash s2 meta. Will they continue to drop players who have already been ‘reset’? Will I eventually go down to bronze?

Say thanks to fake/smurf accounts and trollers. I saw till now many players with nickname “FakeAcountXXXX” were XXXX is a (random?) number. These people join to ruin your competitive match.

Theres only 1 thing worst than Rank Decay and thats Artificial Rank Decay.
Even more absurd when you “force Decay” on accounts that literally played the last season?

What in the what? HUH?

Almost competitive games works this way. There’s no secret.
