Random ping spikes

Hello. for the past couple days I noticed my ingame ping has been randomly spiking 'causing me to lag and move in positions I otherwise wouldn't in game and I have no idea, why this is happening. I called my ISP, restarted and resetted my router and none of these seem to fix the issue. I already play from a foreign country to NA with 109ms which is fine, high ping isn't an issue for me, its the moments where it just randomly goes up 'causing me to either get kicked from the game or "feed"

Hi there Quiz,

I looked over this, the stability of the connection seems to drop around the 4-5th node. This could be the rout in use or it could just be filtering, it’s hard to say for sure.

The best thing to do here is to try and narrow down the cause. You mention resetting the router, can you bypass it and direct connect to the modem? A small test to just rule out the router as a cause.

Another step is to see if the local profile is related. You can do this by trying a new admin on the computer.

Last, are you able to try a mobile hot spot, or another connection, just for a game or two. This will help identify if the system or the connection is the cause of this lag spike and movement issue.

If nothing helps here, please post back with a link to a NetGraph picture when you experience this problem. You can open this by pressing Left Ctrl + Shift + N. Take a couple screenshots of this when the issue is at it’s worst. Upload to a file sharing site then link it here.

Hello, apologies for the late reply of my own but I tried creating a new admin account on my pc to play the game and that didn’t remedy the issue.

Also, there is no modem involved in my home network’s setup, its just a fiber cable ran by my ISP in the area that comes directly to our router.

Playing while the NetGraph is onscreen will be kinda hard, since you know, it takes up the entire screen. Is there any work around to his?

Replying so you can add a new WinMTR, since this thread is about a month old now the original test isn’t useful anyway. Additionally, there is no alternative to the method suggested for the netgraph (i.e. no way to minimize it).

Edit: The Chicago ORD1 server seems to be working as usual/expected from my location and I ran a traceroute and WinMTR to confirm this. This points to a routing problem with your ISP or a network optimization software malfunction on the PC as the potential causes of the issue.

The home network looks okay (23ms is a bit high, should be under 5ms), and the local nodes look okay, but the next few hops in the ISP network are showing spikes over 150ms. So those hops are likely the cause of the issue.
