Random high latency (200ms+, peak 4500ms)

I’m not sure why this is happening but my ping will go to 200ms+, then rapidly increase up to 1000ms usually. Occasionally it reaches 2000ms and once it even went past 3000ms. This has been happening since the anniversary update. I am using WiFi.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update: I’ve surpassed my previous peak of 3000ms with 4500ms. WinMTR: https://pastebin.com/1ajtnubC If anyone has suggestions for a fix please share.

Skrimiche,

Checking these out, you’re losing a decent number of packets between your PC and your router and the spikes appear to begin there. Here’s an example:

Host - % Sent Recv Best Avrg Wrst Last
10.0.0.1 - 2 256 253 12 310 2612 459

Your average latency before you even leave your house is currently over 300. While I can’t say why you’re having this issue, I’d wager the fix is moving closer to your router and if that doesn’t fix it, an ethernet cable. You can also try power cycling the router to see if it just needs a refresh.

If that doesn’t work, it probably means your router’s giving up the ghost, sadly. I’d talk with your ISP about the possibility of swapping it out if they own it, or just replace it yourself if you own it.

Thank you for the reply! My router was replaced a little over a week ago. I was hoping that fixed the issues but it didn’t. I’m planning on getting an ethernet cable so I’ll see if that helps and post an update if I can.
