If the season 13 patch leaks are real PLEASE revert the pummel changes. Please. It’s one of the most fun parts of his kit. I’m BEGGING YOU. The entire benefit of pummel is that it pierces barriers!

Its also the reason “they have Rein ill swap Ram” exists and they have, finally, conceded nobody likes the counterswap on death meta. Its just not fun and its probably the biggest reason no one wants to play tank.
I think they are going to have to play with Ram’s numbers some but at least they are shifting that matchup slightly.

Hot take, Ram does not counter Rein. He was just a good matchup is all. Rein literally denies his entire ult while freely hitting his everytime. That’s not countering.
They are essentially making Ram rush or bust. Big big buff for Rein, Winston and even Sigma too who could matchup well against Ram.
Forget playing Ram in Open Q.

Yes Rein is good(ish) against Ram ult but is bad against literally every other aspect of his kit and meanwhile Rein is largely powerless to fight him. The reason your take is a hot take is because it is wrong. Case in point Rein wont counter Ram with this change because you still have a lot of the tools in your kit that make you good against Rein but now its no longer as one sided as it was before.
I fine with this change, only because how often you get that tank on your team that doesn’t understand how Ram works and tries to block it instead of charging him on Rein.
There are 4 other players on your team, that’s where they come in. You deny his ULTIMATE by literally holding a button. He’s a free charge in either form and you get to use ult for free.
I’m not saying it’s a walk in the park but everyone seems to think it’s an immediate win for Ram.

By that logic Orisa counters Zarya because spear spin blocks zaryas ult, if you just ignore that for most of a round the Zarya isn’t ulting and that the rest of zaryas kit wrecks Orisa.

You would have to time that sooo what you’re trying to get at is not making much sense.
As Rein I can just hold shield whenever I hear Ram ult. I can’t just Javelin Spin, Defense Matrix, Sigma Grasp whenever I hear Zarya ult. Not how it works.

Lets apply your “4 other people” argument to other counters. If I go Orisa are you going to stay Rein? If you do you will lose because it does not matter that there are 4 other people you are useless and if the tank is useless and the other one isnt then you cant win.
For my metal rank friends I will go Zarya and you stick on DVA for the 2d maps. You are going to lose that game the way metal rank tanks play (seriously stop playing this way its wrong).
Yes other people can make it less painful but you are still useless. If I go Ball and Sombra, Brigg, and Hog appear, I am not getting any value no matter how much you try to counter the Hog. He is going to drastically outplay me.
Ram is in a similar boat. If you even marginally competent at Ram you should have NO trouble farming Rein. “oh no his ultimate” is the silliest argument ever because unless you are terrible at Ram that isnt really a relevant problem. Also free tip for other tanks wanting to deal with Rein charge (assuming you are on a hero that will get charged) force him to make the pin go into your team because now he is getting shot at by 5 people with basically no cover and he is usually dead.
Positioning is key in this game including setting up your lines so that he has to pin where YOU want him to pin.
You said some pretty sound stuff other than this.
Does countering matter in Overwatch? Yes. Does countering win you games in Overwatch? No.
All due respect, that’s a plats outlook on the game.
Obviously I don’t encourage anyone to try and play into HARD counters, but just as much as the other 4 enemy heroes can maximize that, the other ally 4 heroes can minimize that.
It depends on the situation. What heroes your team has, the enemy team has, what map, what section of the map and so on.
I’d gladly play D.Va into a Zarya on Numbani 1st, idk if I would on Nepal though.
What I’m saying is, you say ram isn’t a rein counter because rein can block rams ult.
I brought up that Orisa can counter zaryas ult so by your logic Orisa is a Zarya counter. Same for Dva (who is probably a closer allegory for the rein ram interaction)
I was just pointing out that countering one part of the kit of a hero that counters you doesn’t mean said hero doesn’t counter you, because there are other parts of that heroes kit that is used more frequently than an ult.
Yes but an ultimate is perhaps the most impactful part of every hero’s kits. I wouldn’t call Rein being able to deny it 9/10 times him getting hard countered.
You can deny a Zarya grav MAYBE, 1 or 2 times out of 10 if you’re paying a lot of attention and lucky.
A Tank ult isn’t everything though. Rein can block his ult with shield, but what else? Meanwhile, Ramattra could punch through his shield and anytime that Rein wants to attack, he can block. Punch, punch, block, punch, punch, block, punch ad nauseum.
Ram punch puts pressure on Rein yes but he also can’t do anything about your charge and ult.
Making Rein hard counter Ram is a “slight” shift?

Didn’t you JUST say that Ram puts pressure on Rein? No self-respecting Reinhardt is going to throw shatter on top of him when there are half-health. They also nerfed Reinhardt’s shield from 1600 to 1500. Each punch from Ram will do 162.5 damage with a DPS of 271 to shields. He’s gonna break Rein’s shield very quickly on top of the other points of damage.
