R.I.P. Mercy: A Eulogy in her honor

At this point, it has become clear that Blizzard is satisfied with Mercy’s current state and has no plans to revert her anytime soon. Although there are many brave warriors whom continue the good fight to restore Mercy 1.0, the battle is getting increasingly futile as the days pass by. The passing of Mercy has left a void in many people’s hearts and I believe that we need some form of closure. Therefore, I have prepared a Eulogy to honor the Mercy whom we all knew and loved:

Today we say goodbye to Dr. Angela Ziegler.

The world will long remember Angela as a doctor whom has made tremendous strides in improving the medial field and earning her both fame and the respect of her peers; a humanitarian whom always placed the lives of others before her own; a healer whom traveled to war-torn countries to help the suffering; a champion for those who had none; and an Overwatch Hero whom performed countless deeds to save the world from those whom would terrorize it.

Angela was birthed in a war-crippled world - a white rose sprouting in the wasteland. The omnic wars enacted a heavy toll upon Angela and claimed the lives of both her mother and father.

While such a horrendous loss would ordinarily shatter a lesser woman, Angela was determined not to let their sacrifice be in vain. She made it her mission to change the world for the better so that no other child would have the suffer the same fate.

After obtaining her MD and PHD in Switzerland, Ziegler rose to become the head of surgery at a prominent Swiss hospital. Her hard work and dedication lead her to pioneer a breakthrough in the field of applied nanobiology that radically improved the treatment of life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

Her brilliance and desire to improve the state of the world drew the attention of Overwatch whom recruited her to their ranks shortly thereafter.

Overwatch gave Mercy the resources and the opportunity to help save people on a global level. She was known to fly into battle wearing her Valkyrie swift-response suit and provide critically needed healing to the front lines despite the mortal danger this placed upon herself.

However, despite all the responsibility and time invested in her chosen career, Angela always found time for her friends. She is remembered for helping her friend Torbjörn design a healing device based on her biotic technology.

The decommission of Overwatch weighed heavily on Angela’s heart. Although she was occasionally at odds with Overwatch’s militaristic approach, she always believed that Overwatch was a force for good and was a vital part of human prosperity.

Despite her hardships and the evils around her, Mercy never once stopped believing in the goodness of humanity. After overwatch, she continued to don her Valkyrie suit and brought hope to those lost to the chaos of war.

Although we are all filled with sorrow at her passing. Let us not make this a sad day of mourning. Let us instead celebrate the life lived by this angel and rejoice in what was. Let us honor her memory and use it as inspiration for our lives and future actions. Let us tell fond stories of her heroic deeds and the positive influence that they have had. Let us drink a toast to her memory.

Mercy, although you have been called back to heaven, you will always be remembered and loved.
“The candle which burns twice as bright, burns half as long.”
