Quickplay vs ranked players elitism

Hello guys , for those who don’t know I’m a only quickplay player only. Tried rankeds long time ago and the toxic enviroment isn’t my thing.

So since one year I play only quickplay.

Now I while I don’t care of such comments because they slip the next match I wondwer why people who play rankeds and maybe sometime quickplay , feel the urge to look down at people like me who… simply do qp.

To understand better, today I had a game on horizon with a person using hammond, fine by me, but at some point he began to cry

all
the
match

about enemy cc

I simply told him ‘‘you’re countered’’, didn’t ask to switch or whatever and the answer was ‘‘is quickplay’’ (not something I share but fine by me)

and literally the rest of the team said to him ‘‘then play and stop complaining’’, because he kept till the last second (was playing tracer so didn’t had the chance to mute lol)

at the end I was called ''quickplay weeb, or ‘‘finish your skill bot’’ (whatever it means, personally I took the first as a compliment and the second made me laugh)

then why this post? because isn’t the first time I meet this kind of '‘elitism’ toward me or some other player who had empty profile when speaking about competitive games.

in end a ‘‘uncomfortable’’ truth, playing rankeds don’t give you the right to look down at others or to think you’re better than the ‘‘quickplayer’’, just play and respect everyone

bruh I had some dude in my discord who was playing Ashe complaining the entire time about DVA of all tanks, he was bronze in Quickplay Classic btw, and we ended up telling him to shut up and start DPSing 'cuz it’s just… Dva… and then he ragequit >.> <.<

Some people are just bound to complain all dang day instead of trying something different.

This is it. This is the truth hardcore comp players aren’t ready for.

I’m in a similar boat as you. I only do comp placements for the points at the end; it’s too toxic for me. I tend to play a lot of QP, it’s more calm.

But I often have these people who are clearly fresh out of comp and talking trash to me because i’m “trash at widow”. Well I know that, thanks captain obvious, but this is QP and I’m trying things out. At least I ain’t throwing your comp games.

But if you’re going to complain in QP, keep it to yourself. Don’t tell your team that you have issues with what they play or what the enemy does.

the ranked enviroment has been destroyed by boosting and players overall having tons of alternate accounts, I would suggest not touching it until overwatch 2. The smurfing is not the problem but I think a lot of people tend to just not play competitively anymore

I mean QP also follows MMR so don’t be ashamed. I played a ton of QP only when my PC had technical issues. QP is fun, but you don’t learn to improve in my opinon like you do in ranked. And communication in the higher ranks is quite fun when people find out that VC isn’t just for being toxic but can improve teamplay.

I think this just speaks volumes about the degree at which some heroes counter others in certain skill brackets. These interactions aren’t healthy either way.

For some baffling reason people think ranked is something other than casual with points. It’s a video game we’re playing in our free time no matter the mode.

The answer to your circumstance is quite simple;

He could not accept he was whining and being annoying. People don’t like to look at themselves this way, and on the internet they do not stop to challenge the idea that maybe, just maybe, they don’t need to whine out loud… and they can do it in their head.

It’s ironic, because he was talking down on someone in QP as if he was a comp try hard and at the same time failed to apply that comp try hard through his gameplay…

His words were false, empty and above all unfiltered and unchecked…

Some people just open their mouth and their consideration stops there.

ive kind of always accepted in games with a ranked ladder an equal amount of people only play casually. personally for me its just a completely different game honestly. people who play qp to play qp awesome have fun playing the game but people who play qp to “practice” comp is veerrrrrryyyy illminded

It’s not that we “ look down “ on people who only play quick play it’s that a player like myself that invested a lot of time understanding the game , knowing how to play to get results and play around your team so when we see a major mistake like feeding over and over or not stalling till 99 percent even if we stagger we get a bit frustrated

Because people in comp at least to a small degree understand the game and how to play and it’s not just “ get kills “ there’s a lot more so when we see these basic mistakes over and over throughout the 5 minutes of the match it can get annoying because sometime and it does happen where a major mistake that could 100 percent be avoided if the player just knew a little bit more could cost us that quick play match

I myself enjoy quick play to relax but just seeing players not understanding how the game works can get to a player sometimes were used to at least a small amount of understanding to avoid the most basic mistakes

I can’t help but think this is sort of hilarious because the last few times I tried to play comp, it went horribly; my team seemed only interested in getting kills, doing insane things like pushing up to the enemy’s spawn doors right at the beginning of the game, then flaming the rest of us for not following up on their suicide mission, etc.

I’d hope it was true and all, but I feel like a good portion of the games I’ve ever played in comp were just absolute jokes. People trolling or just not trying, same as I get in Quickplay. The only difference by and large seems to be that when I play Comp, there is more likely to be someone screaming in team chat. That’s about the only difference lol.

I don’t know that there’s much inherent about the mode (QP vs Comp) you play that defines the amount of knowledge you have. Bad QP players exist and bad Comp players exist.

QP has a much wider net for MM. If you want a better chance to play exclusively with people at your knowledge level then, theoretically at least, comp should be more uniform.

Well, my issue on qp it’s about not being played as the mode deserves. I don’t care if I lose or win, but if a enemy picks something like pharah and or dps are reaper and junk. I say, "can somebody deal with pharah? ". Also if I’m a support and we have a pharah, at least one of supports needs to be able to heal her. I’s not tryhard, it’s common sense.

It’s not about winning or losing. It’s about people know how to play. Doesn’t matter if they don’t play well, but counters exist and overwatch it’s about adaptability and teamwork. If you win, good. If you lose patience. But if you play properly you can have at least fun, which is my goal.

Just because the mode doesn’t have a “visual” ranking doesn’t mean that he deserves to be treated as garbage. A lot of crazy and fun stuff can happen on qp, but the mode deserves to treated as serious. Not about winning but about playing properly. Also I don’t like the mindset about qp is a trainning mode for competitve. Their mindset it’s way to far from each other. One means fun as endgoal, the other just measure your skill up/down the ranks

Hello everyone and thanks for all the answers. Now I will answer some and ask something to clear my doubt.

First: I read some people quickplay is not a ‘‘training’’ mode for ranked, mind to tell me where someone do his/her practice for ranked games?

Second: I have both experience from comp and qp, and in comp (playing Sombra in gold so I am ALWAYS on voice to call hacks/emps), now as you know this hero require a lot of comms, but personally had a lot of quickplays where none was talking or listening where everyone cooperated better than a ranked game

personally quickplay have pro and cons, one of the pro is that you can see way more heroes played and can add some knowledge, while in comp you mostly see ‘‘meta picks’’, while in comp if voice chat isn’t used to yell your frustration there is a better teamplay.

the point of my post wasn’t to say ‘‘quickplayer or ranked player bettern than the other one’’

my point was that a lot of times I met this kind of ‘‘elitism’’ where people who are dedicated to ranked (and to them I give my compliment for their patience, something I really lack in that enviroment) ‘‘insult’’ (don’t know a better word) who play only quickplay.

My point was

just play .

You are not alone. I have almost 500 hours on my main account, of which only 18 is ranked mode.

Well, their mindsets differ a lot. One your focus it’s about winning. The other it’s about having fun.

About the first: Custom games, it’s really a good form to train skills with a group of people. Because you have more tools to make rulesets, can focus on teamwork and get better as team. Competitive means get better as individual and as team, endgoal being on contenders or OWL. So private matches 3vs3 or 6vs6 are the ideal modes for that. Because you focus on what really matters and generate produtive feedback and learn how to improve.

About the second: Because qp it’s about synergy without the obligation of winning, It’s about performing ok as team while having fun doing so(even if your individual skill is bad). On competitive you will need to focus more on skill and how make more optimal teamplay combos and got better teamwork. Qp your teamwork it’s about synergy without much effort on optimization, if you think that action will help the team, you do It. While competitive you know how your teammates will respond and will time well your attacks and defenses.

If people actually cared about competitive, would train in private matches on custom game, create a team and get up on the ranks as group. The endgoal of competitive it’s “competitive” so if you don’t want be a pro or have a better performance in the game for that goal, you just playing the wrong mode. QP it’s for people who don’t want that kind of thing or just don’t care. People goes for the competitive because the gold guns and sometimes to gauge their skill level, after that if they want to get better they need to improve their mindset and to do that he needs to team up with people with that same mindset. Play together and get better together. The best way to do so, it’s in private matches. That’s it’s how teams are made in any kind of competitive game. You fish some players, group up and play some private matches.

That’s the meaning of competitive. You are rewarded for wins and got punished from loses. Competive it’s not to be mainstream it’s to be a competitive mode. Because of that bronze rank have a lot of players. Those players just doesn’t care about the mode, they just plays as if they are QP. That’s the issue. Competitive it’s not a casual mode or a mode to people play sometimes in a week, it’s about perfecting and mastering every aspect of the game, team up with others and put those skills for real. OWL and Contenders are the proof of those things.

But people, just don’t get it. So everyday more people will got on bronze, be sad about the game and most likely abbandon. Most of the toxicity of the game comes from people who got bad ranking, complaint about his teammates, make their teammates do the same and that cycle repeats until someone breaks free from those bad habits.

The first thing I ask when player calls me for competitive is: “why do you want to play competitive instead of QP?”
If they say because they want get better, then I go with them. Also recommend to make friends at same range as him to group up afterwards.
Weeks later: their ranks improved.

If they want have fun, I just say: you playing wrong. If you want, go alone.
Weeks later: their ranks got worst than before or even got bronze.

Thanks for your answer, ye I read/see a lot of people who create custom games/teams to go ranked.

But not everyone have the chance to do it, personally I’m one who play alone, sometime in qp I go with a friend but is rare.

In fact most of the times you ear people saying they’re practicing a new hero in qp (fine by me, but if you complain about your counters and whine all the match to your team… is kinda boring)

as for me qp is fun of course, personally I’m one who even if is qp try to win, (i’m one who like to counterpick do my best still) but never complained about others in team or if my hero is countered like the guy I talked about in my op post

You can play solo on competitive. It’s not ideal if you not doing to gauge your current skill. After some matches and stabilized their “rank” you know where your skills are and had enough time to make some friends to go on private matches.

I said this stuff, because people just pass the phase “know your rank” and just play for fun. In the end, goes down to bronze.

I only play QPC too, 4000 hours. I have never played ranked.
Because the people who throw in QP will also throw in ranked.
And eventhough i do not leave easily, i do leave often.

The games i like best is when i’m on defense with Torbjorn, Symmetra, Bastion, Junkrat, Orisa and Mercy.
The attacking team is like always; Ashe, Hanzo, Widowmaker, McCree, Genji and Ana.

Now ask the ranked elitists who win this game, and they will assume the attacking team.
Because of “skill”.
The reality is that the attacking team will not even make it past the first choke.
Because they lack importnant “skills”, like attitude.
The funny thing they do not understand is this; good snipers do not play QPC.
All they have is aim and most of them do not even have that
They just spawn to die.
They cry about the turrets, they cry about each other. But they never switch.
And with 30 seconds left on the clock they report their Ana and leave.
These are the glorious ranked players of Overwatch.

And they have no clue why ranked is such a mess
Luckily in QP you can just leave these guys in the lobby.
