Games are really unbalanced…
like you can’t put silver players up against multiple master players… it really lives up to the word quickplay but not in the fun way.
This wasn’t always the case, I feel like they changed the matchmaking to improve queue times.
If this is the case it’s best to just remove the role queue… the comps won’t be balanced but the skill rates will be.

Quick Play even before Role Queue always had instances of players in drastically different Competitive Ranks playing against each other. This is because Quick Play uses an entirely separate hidden matchmaking rating from that of Competitive and yes there is looser range to building a match versus that of Competitive. Nothing really has changed, but the perceived problems may seem more dramatic now that the game is restricted to the 2-2-2 ruleset.
I think there’s also the factor that each role is seperately matched, but not matching each other good enough.
I’ve seen enough games with gm/master tanks, plat/gold dps, and plat/diamond healers.
This kinda game feels not engaging at all.

The idea of matchmaking in general is so that there is an average between the two teams. It has to do this among the different player pools queued into each individual role and also account for things like ping/datacenter and keeping group stacks together as much as possible. On the surface it may sound simple, but even in quick play, matchmaking is incredibly complicated and even more so in Competitive as there are additional restrictions.
Think of it that you are trying to put together a 12-piece puzzle but the pieces are mixed with 100 other 12-piece puzzles.
It was always been that way. Even before role queue and privates profiles came. I’ve been watched against above plat. I once seen a T500 aswell when i first brought the game.
I never understood why my team is only bronze, silver & gold or some times plat. While the other team is mostly above plat.
Most often it leads to spawncamping. It’s why i stopped playing QP it is a horrible mode.

be the master tho, don’t be silver, it resolves smurf problem simultaniousely btw.
Yes I get it that there’s multiple factors in play about how this works, and I don’t even deny that this is the result of attempts of shortening queue times.
But, imo, the fact that queue times are matchmaking quality is starting to be at conflict, means there’s eventually no win for the player.

I always wonder why this never happens. The weakest person in the stack is brought into the highest members game. So they suffer from the imbalance, and not people who have no say.

This is the biggest problem. I am not sure why they have two mmr ratings per player. Why not just refrence their competitive mmr if one is present? But I guess they got bigger things to worry about rather than matchmaking for qp.
In a perfect world. if your MMR is higher in comp. Your MMR in QP is updated to that one. It should have been the obvious thing to do. Blizzard is literally causing people to be smurfs in QP that way. QP MMR should only exist for someone who has no comp game MMR. Or is higher than the comp MMR.

I have a very difficult time figuring out the matchmaking of QP matches post 2-2-2. Before 2-2-2 I don’t recall QP being so wonky. Sure you got the occasional imbalance - but not like it is now. It must have to do with the excess in DPS players queuing or maybe they balance role to role rather than team to team.

It has to do with the people it finds. It can’t really find balanced games too well. With me it has a huge problem doing it. Because it would always throw me into games with low levels and or the other side had stacks. When I started filtering my games. And only playing in games with stacks limited to 2 and no low levels under 50. The games became a lot more balanced. So it’s pulling people like me into games that it REALLY shouldn’t. So it ends up making the teams all messed up trying to compensate. That’s what causes the streaks.
I have had gm players in my qp, im mid silver. I dont know why the qp system is such a pos where it finds these matches even remotely fair in any way. Thats ignoring all the smurf account, the blatant cheating going on in the majority of the games, like 95% of matches are forced a loss/win.

trust me if they got two master tanks and you have silver/gold tanks, you lost doesn’t matter if your dps is gm.
I’ve won against gm players just because we had GM tanks and they didn’t.

Lol, all these people going “derp it’s always been this way herp”
So because it’s always been that way makes it fine? Hilarious.

We get it that it gives team averages to make it more “balanced” that still doesnt do anything in matchup fairness, examples:
- A plat ana might be against a GM doomfist/tracer
- high master widow against gold hanzo/widow
The teams might be matched “fairly” because they have the same average but that doesnt do anything against these situations, it makes the game unfair and unfun period.
