I acknowledge that Competitive mode is the place to be if you have expectations of everyone working together, understanding maps / positioning, and having proficiency with the heroes they play.
I also understand that quickplay is meant to be a place for players to practice and learn new heroes, and to play causally without the pressure of tryharding for the entire match.
The problem I have with quickplay right now is that the matches are overly balanced for casual/low skill players. I know there has to be a mode that protects the newer and more casual players from the tryhards that just want to stomp quickplay lobbies, but where am I supposed to practice a hero that I haven’t played much, without being held back by a crummy team? I always seem to get stuck with the tank that wont push past the choke, the supports that exclusively DPS, and a whole team that never groups up. I can’t practice high level plays or synergies as a solo queue. The only place I can do that currently is in ranked, and I dont want to be in ranked if I am still developing proficiency with a given hero. I’m sure my teammates in ranked also don’t want me there if I don’t know what I’m doing yet. WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO PLAY?
We need an unranked tryhard scrimmage mode where there are no match balancing mechanics like you find in quickplay (the crazy hitbox tolerance for console/switch players, the ridiculous team stacking where they give you 3 bad players as a sandbag, etc) I would be willing to wait in longer queues for reasonably fair matches if it meant we could play without the match balancing garbage getting involved.
Let me reiterate that I do believe there needs to be a fun place for console/switch/casual players to have fun without being stomped by QP tryhards, but we need to also have a place for the tryhards to develop their skills at a high level without the risk of damaging our competitive ranks in the process (or ruining matches for comp teammates)
My first thought was to create an alt account, but then I have to manage two accounts, and I would like all of my stats/unlocks to be on a single account.
Except I have respect for my teammates, and I don’t want to be throwing matches because I’m still learning. I also don’t want to risk lowering my SR just because I feel like playing a new hero
Except it is not risking lowering his SR. He IS going to lower his SR. He is the equivalent of someone playing Battle Mercy.
Ironically what you are suggesting is encouraging smurfs in comp because once he finishes losing 900 SR he is going to have to climb back up and it is going to be a stomp once he does.
In my opinion, that’s a flawed take. What you are suggesting is akin to telling students to just repeatedly take exams, failing again and again until they pass.
What about learning? What about studying?? what about developing skills before showing up to the exam?
I can’t change your mind because I’m in agreement. I can only speak for myself, but I encounter a LOT more stomps than I used to even a month ago. I think I’ve gone something like 6-17 the last few days.
And it’d be one thing if the games were close. But a LOT of them aren’t. Not my any metric I can apply anyway.
Look, I know the leaver penalty is still VERY contentious around here, and I’m tired of fighting about it. But for cripes sake. If your going to do that, if your going to put up red lines for players that make it so after a certain point you HAVE to eat the crap sandwich of an uneven game or sit in timeout I don’t think its asking for the moon for tighter restrictions on groups in QP as well as comp
I’m sorry. A grandmaster should not be able to queue with bronze and silvers-literally something i had last night btw-while the enemy team has no such luck and their highest player is diamond. That’s just insanity, idc what mode it is.
except all the playtime i accumulate on the alt account is taking the place of that time on my main. So i can’t progress my battlepass, I can’t use my skins, I can’t use the comp points I earn on my alt to buy gold weapons on my main.
Matchmaking has consistently gone downhill over the last few seasons. The game is basically unplayable ATM. I’ve barely touched it this season, and every time I log on I just get thrown into auto-loss after auto-loss with teammates going 2/18 and feeding their brains out running in solo time after time after time.
I don’t have a problem with people being bad at the game because there’s a lot to learn and get used to, but I’ve been playing for over a year I shouldn’t be getting literal noobs in my matches.
I wish they never implemented leaver penalties, NOT because I am a chronic leaver, but because backfill gives you at least a chance of getting a semi-competent teammate when the thrower inevitably leaves. Now they’ll just throw instead so match quality is non-existent.
lmao you clearly didnt read my post. It is not possible to practice in quickplay above a certain skill level. That skill ceiling is very low. The match balancing mechanics step in and prevent stomps. If you don’t see it happening, it’s because you aren’t playing at a high enough skill level. I don’t mean that as an attack, just explaining why you aren’t able to perceive what is happening.
Dunno I have several alts and I don’t worry about the BP since I don’t buy them. I play for the gameplay. I am very high rank. I don’t think you are even looking for a solution, just venting.
I am absolutely looking for a solution, in fact I even suggested one! we need an unranked mode where we can tryhard and not be balanced down by the match balancing mechanics which are optimized for casuals.
OK then explain to me how i am supposed to preserve my SR while playing a new hero? That won’t happen in comp. I will be basically throwing, and making everyone hate me while my SR plummets
Blizzard just needs to split out QP into two queues at this point imo.
Unranked - Comp ruleset, tighter matchmaking bands, no stacks of vastly different MMR, comp leaver penalties with no SR attached.
QP - Current ruleset, drop in drop out mode.
Both modes give currency for completing games that can be used to buy last season’s comp weapon skins (emerald takes over in comp allowing current gold skins to be purchased in QP, etc.) with unranked giving more.
Quick Play is that mode. Or deathmatch. Or arcade. What is the issue with QP? You feel it’s too competitive? Well I feel like competitive isn’t competitive enough. Everyone sees the game differently.
