the matchmaker range is way too wide for any kind of pleasurable experience unless you are on the steamrolling team.
its so awful being an average player just solo queueing and getting matches that were made by just throwing random people in a match together no matter their rank or skill
I think I figured it out. So new account here, havn’t played in years, and even when I did ranked back in the day I was a gold DPS, barely. SO what’s happening to myself, and probably others, is i’ll win a game, and then it bumps me up to another skill level. Then in order for it to reduce me back to a lower bracket, it’ll take like 5 losses or so. In other words, they made it to where if you start winning, you face harder opponents, but also made it to where it takes more losses than wins to return to the level you were at. This is why people don’t even think there’s any matchmaking to begin with, but I disagree. It’s there, it just absolutely blows.
Its not pleasurable to be on the steamrolling team either, if you’re any sort of honest player. The only people who enjoy it are the kids without the maturity to appreciate fair competition.
This is me. I’ll get into a game with other people who suck like myself, maybe win, then next game the enemy team is like 12+ kills per person compared to our 1/0, and i’m litterally being chased around the map by an ANA. I’m turning corners, grabbing a health pack, some Ana is chasing me down like vader in rogue one. Like bro’s playing a healer and I suck so bad i’m being chased by a healer. Other team dosn’t even need her heals, wins anyway.
Or like, some reaper is just taking out our whole team. Consistently. Nothing but us respawning, running back, and getting murked. These games are so bad it’s hilarious, because I know I suck and like how am I being matched with these people?
like i know OW is a low skill game, so its not hard for even middle ranks to get good value (instead of mid value), but like its insane that they dont fix this stuff
its that or all the talent is gone and they dont actually have any ideas of their own? idk
im only here for a couple weeks while inbetween other games so im not too worried about it, but part of me really want OW to be a great game and its deff the management holding the game back
OW2 could be a top PvP game even all these years later but the management direction is kinda awful outside stadium, but even then the balance team hurts stadium pretty bad
Its solely whatever algorithms or programming they use in the matchmaker. Litterally something that could be recoded probably. But they think it’s fair or whatever and refuse to fix it, so i feel like the only bronze skilled player that exists. This last steamroll, that happned 3 minutes ago, enemy team said they were plat. How did i get matched with plats?
I think the devs are stuck between a rock and a hard place with this one. It sucks when you can’t play a game with your friend(s) due to rank differences, hence the wide matchmaking of QP. It makes sense in comp, but QP should be a place where a highly skilled experienced player can play with a friend who’s playing OW for the first time, IMO.
There are so many factors that complicate the issue. Rank/skill gaps. The sheer number of combinations of heroes there are, some that are obviously better than others. Stacks of 2-5 players queueing together. Smurfs. Trolls/throwers. Lack of communication between players that aren’t already playing as a stack. A team just not working well together and losing, even though on paper, they should win.
You have to take all of that into consideration along with the word “quick”. It’s not like the people who code the matchmaking stuff are dummies.
I hate lopsided games as much as anyone. Win or lose, they suck. But I can’t think of a solution to it that wouldn’t have a knock-on effect that might make the game worse for casual players, and new players especially.
Is it too much to ask for fun and balanced matches playing any mode? This is a video game after all
By the way im not saying perfectly balanced everyone is exactly the same rank. It’s just too wide of mm right now when I get in games with grandmasters one game and bronzes the next
a lot of people prefer not to play comp for various reasons. Maybe their internet sucks, maybe they have console friends, maybe they just like a mode that has no rank behind it? Whatever the reason, qp is a major role in overwatch and right now i feel like Im not alone when I say its just not fun majority of games
