Quickplay >>> Competitive

Thanks to nateson!

Lower toxicity
Can play with friends regardless of SR.
Less trash talking.

Generally more fun than comp.

Only bad thing is can’t get gold weapons.

And the water is wet.

What’s the point of this post?

I think it’s pretty obvious, don’t you?

Not all posts are about being confrontational and antagonistic. It’s basically telling people who are having a problem with not having fun to go to quickplay.

Backfill still exists in Quick Play. This nightmare still follows me. Ugh.

I spent around 3000 hours playing quickplay and maybe only 200 playing comp. Why am I “so casual”?

Comp in one sentence: the most experienced team with the least amount of infighting, jerks, and bad luck is almost always the team that wins the match. It is a disastrous grouping of people taking the game far, far too seriously with those playing just to farm points to unlock their gold guns, …and with those who derive enjoyment in trolling both aforementioned players. Comp is full of overinflated egos. It is impossible to play more than a few games without encountering babyrage, throwers, smurfs, and annoying backseat gamers who over analyze and ridicule your play or another player’s and then call for mass reports when they don’t like what they see or hear. Without backfill, the team who loses is dictated by the kids who conveniently queue to play and then get caught 10 minutes later and thrown off by their parents. If it isn’t them, then it is the guys playing on potatoes held together with wires and duct tape on crappy 90’s era Internet or WiFi, and who once again forgot to pay their electric bill—all during the middle of a category 5 hurricane. That is, unless the hiding smurf in the remaining team of 5 decides to hulk out and carry his team to victory.

QP, on the other hand, tends to be either a circus or the best experience one can have playing Overwatch. You are free to play with all of your friends no matter what their SR is. Instead of being yelled at, you’re more likely to laughing along with your buddies. It’s easier to learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others because the feedback tends to be more civil when there is less stress. The games can be more serious and intense than competitive when people are not afraid to take slightly bigger risks than they would when they have something to lose. It’s only when the usual rules are thrown out—when heroes are seemingly picked at random without sense or synergy, causing the objective-based teamwork to evaporate and the game devolves into a TDM circus—does QP lose its lustrous fun factor.

In both modes, I find what happens is often largely out of my control. The difference is that comp often leaves me feeling angry after a series of triumphs in its roller coaster ride, whereas a session of QP tends to leave me shaking my head at either something silly or stupid and feeling satisfied overall after any length of time. It’s no wonder that I spent so much time in QP over comp. It is also why I laugh whenever I see someone attempt to call me out over my public profile and try to belittle me in front of the entire server. “LUL @ the fancy border yet still hardstuck! How can you be so bad??” I can’t help but marvel at why someone else would think I care what I think of the meaningless rank I carry or its relation to the time I invested playing. I mean, imagine still thinking that in 2019!

I often see comp enthusiasts’ biggest complaint about QP is that it encourages bad playstyle and bad behavior which, when taken to comp, sets you and your innocent teammates up for rapid defeat. They argue that the smart player should limit their experience to competitive to learn and enjoy the game properly. To that, I say: yes, while you can get away with some rather stupid plays sometimes in QP, it is still in your interest to learn what is bad behavior, so that you can punish it when you see it and triumph, whether it be in QP or in comp. You can figure it out given enough time in QP, and reduce that time when playing around serious friends. Not everything flies in QP, at least not all the time.

Quick is more popular now. 10 sec to wait, ranked min 2 min for tanks and up to 20 for dps

Thanks for your input. And I generally agree with you on all points.

So how can you make comp better? Or is it even possible because it tends to create the “competitive” mindset which bring the toxicity, back seat comments, and other negativity with it.

There must be some positives to comp now?

The reason I played comp before was so I could get a better team composition. I wanted to play in optimized groups, now that I can get that in QP, I don’t feel the need to comp anymore.

Not playing overwatch > playing overwatch
