This post goes out to all the quick play Widow’s. Do you seriously enjoy constantly dying in one spot and standing still while missing 80% of your shots? I swear, every singe quick play game I go to I’m placed with a Widow who simply finds a spot and won’t leave it no matter what. I mean, sure, it’s a game have fun, but when you’re not doing the job you’re supposed to be doing, expect me to ask you to switch. I was matched up with this one Widow who simply stood on that balcony on Hanamura, she kept dying and asking me for Resses until I asked her to switch, she later lashed out at me for apparently being ‘toxic’ for asking her to switch and she said that I’m not doing my job as a healer of keeping her alive. Really? Seriously, if you’re going to play a Hero like Widow, be prepared to switch if you’re being countered.
Yeah, dude, it’s fun as hell.
Amelie LaCroix is the most fun hero in the game.
How do you expect Widowmaker players to get better if you think they aren’t ever allowed to play her if they suck with her? It’s like a catch-22.
Why can’t you let people practice what they want?
why yes, yes i do. thank you for asking! see you in the next game!
It is sort of a catch 22, but at the same time at almost no time in QP do snipers switch off if they are being countered or simply not doing well the entire match.
Thusly, this points to the bigger problem of how “hero switching” and making the game in theory built around it is flawed at it’s core. Because the game doesn’t force you to do it, even though the game is screaming at you to do it people don’t seem to get the message… Or they don’t care.
And the people that one trick / don’t care are why this game will never actually get to be as good as it can be. Which is also partly to blame not just on those players but Blizzard because they had the foresight to think people would actually cater to the game rather than the game catering to them.
Im fine with them practicing in qp but at least put all those hours to the test in comp. How many QP widows actually even try her in comp? 1 out of every 6. This statistic is completely made up and like most QP widows I probably missed.
This even applies to low-rank Comp Widows. There was one round on Eichenvald(??) with one Widow who was defending on the second point (my team was attacking). She kept setting herself up on the roof of the building that is part of the wall separating the first two points (it’s got a bunch of rubble for hiding behind; had a Hanzo hiding there as well for a short time). Not very good though; I managed to beat her in a sniper duel…as MERCY!! (did it only once because Mercy is not supposed to pistol when there are still teammates nearby). And yet she kept setting herself up there. Admittedly, the rest of my team didn’t spend much time on her, so she didn’t have much incentive to leave, particularly as I tried to Res teammates and she kept headshotting me.
Yeah, but how is this different from other QP players?
I’ve seen it all. Soldiers with 10% accuracy, McCrees who miss a stunned target, Winstons who try to solo the most tanky heroes. Widow players aren’t special in that regard.
do you enjoy complain about stuff that doesnt matter, if people care that much about winning just stick to comp, quick is meant to practice heroes and is not to be taken seriously
i dont care who my team picks in quick play, i never take quick play seriously because its a game mode where you can practice heroes without worrying about being good with them or worry about winning or losing if i did care about that stuf i would play comp
Comp = do your best to win
QP = have fun, practice a hero against people
Bots = learn the mechanics
Yes, they suck. But QP is where to go until you not-suck.
everytime i play widow in qp, i completely pop off killing anything i see
Hey now, have you seen how skinny Widowmaker is? Moving around burns alot of calories. At this point, she needs all the calories she can get simply to “live”. Don’t be selfish now.
They won’t get better if they don’t play her.
In my many years of playing and developing games, especially FPS games, I have come across certain types of player in focus groups, players who only use rogue classes, players who only use sniper classes.
There’s some kind of extreme risk aversion psychology going on and they take it very personally if their character gets killed, so they pick classes that pose minimum risk, and offer the minimum chance of retaliation from the opponents.
Both rogue and sniper classes suit this mind set very well since their opponents are either unaware or out of range of their presence to pose realistic threat.
These players are exemplified in the WoW rogue, the Skyrim sneak archer and TFC sniper roles.
They are a significant demographic of the gaming population which needs to be catered for without alienating the rest of the gaming population, since it is very easy for these classes to become overpowered since their mechanics are very straightforward and simply require appropriate control set-up and a modicum of skill to be very effective, you don’t really need movement or awareness skills for these roles, as some people like to joke “its just clicking on heads”.
Like many people, myself included (I’m a support junkie), once we settle on a class role that matches our psychology, we find it very difficult to move on, and the rogue/sniper very much appreciates the safety the roles bring. They are non-threatening, comfortable, and make the player feel powerful with little confrontation.
The sniper does not really care about the team objective (this is self evident, when was the last time you saw a Widow swoop down in OT to contest when her team is running back), how effective they are, (and I have rarely seen consistent, acc rates over 30%) they care about not being shot at, they care about surviving to the end of the game without dieing.
Thus we will always have sniper roles to satisfy the demographic, regardless of how injurious that role may be to the team experience. Blizzard have actually done rather a good job in making a sniper class that is not too frustrating and oppressive for the enemy team, while satisfying the sniper demographic.
“Quick” and “Play” are the keywords that you should be looking at, OP.
The Widowmaker players are probably…
- Using Quick Play for aim practice.
- Just messing around because they don’t feel like choosing other heroes for the map in question.
- Don’t want to bother with competitive because of the toxicity the moment Widowmaker is chosen.
You’re going to have to accept the fact that in Quick Play, alot of people put the competitive part of the game aside. At least by a little bit.
Even though they have over 20+ hrs on her …? They’re not trying to get better.
Widowmaker requires far more than 20 hours to master, especially if you aren’t already proficient at the game.
