How can it be if so many players need 50 wins in order to get to competitive?
When it was level capped there was no problem.
But now you’re expected to play over 50 games guaranteed in a CASUAL game mode trying to get wins when the rest of their team won’t be playing seriously?
There’s no way my friends would be able to finish that within a year even if I grouped with them and they will leave long before they reach that cap.
I waited years trying to get them to join me in the game and now they can’t.

Even in a “casual” game, you owe it to your teammates to try to win. The reason they specifically ask you to win for various unlocks is to encourage this attitude. I don’t want to play with people who don’t care at all if their team wins.

Within a year?? How bad are you guys that 50 wins is unreasonable? I’m
at this game and already have 200+ wins in QP in under 2 months. Are you guys trying or clowning?

My cousin is new (to fps and games in general), and she’s gone like 11 and 50 in QP. 50 wins is a far far away uphill battle. I doubt she’ll even keep it installed. With her “thrower” stats, she might even be false banned before the 50 is up.
It just isn’t giving her a meaningful experience. Nothing but stomps. And “close” games that are close because the other team is clearly laughing at her and throwing, or making her sweat or jump through some gate “all you have to do is hop on the point and embarass yourself and we’ll give you a pass”. Meanwhile the rigging is teasing out her hidden mmr metrics so it can already decide her lobbies. Awfully invasive.
She should at least be allowed to win 25 of those in vs. AI or something. That will teach her enough basics and the bots feel less psychologically oppressive (they don’t tbag or report her for throwing).
Comes down to if they want new players or not.

I thought it was just 50 games. Not 50 wins
Even so. Not 50 straight wins but by the time you reach that goal you should have a full understanding of teamwork and your heroes.
Tho I wish they also include, must play two heroes of all categories and win 10
That way you have two heroes, DPS-Tank and support to switch between and know how to play as them.

this is still heavily reaching to continue to defend QP as the place to not get in trouble for sabotage. I’d argue that if there is a leaver penalty, quick play needs to be taken seriously. Arcade is the “casual” mode.
Yeah, but now there’s nowhere for people to just play for fun because simply going into quickplay to play for fun or to try out a new hero, you are ruining someone else’s ability to get into comp.
It’s make Quickplay into extended comp where not everyone has gotten the memo.
I think the idea is that comp play is where you go for slightly more serious/organized (yes, yes, we’ve all seen silly bronze 5 gameplay - but this is the theory) games, so you should have a better idea of what you are doing.
There are a lot of game mechanics to learn across a ton of characters, and a lot of brand new players won’t have a great idea of what they should be doing, even after 50 games, vs. most ranked players.
I think that’s the idea - and unlocking comp, just like characters, gives you a sense of progression. Is 50 wins too much? I guess it depends - some players are ready after 10 games, and some might choose stay in QP until they have several hundred games under their belts.
Overwatch has always been a competitive game.
Even though QP has always been the more ‘casual’ gamemode it’s not really a casual experience since most players play to win.

“You guys”
I’m trying to get friends to enjoy playing the same game I play that haven’t got much FPS experience. But they’ll feel bad ruining games for other people that are better that can’t get their 50 wins because they’re still learning.
I think you’re way too focused on the 50 wins. The large majority of people you’re seeing in QP have done that already, and are choosing to remain in QP.

I’d argue you need to provide an easier but still legit option to progress, like vs. AI.
Right now vs. AI gives you no endorsements, and barely counts towards anything.
It is absolutely a training zone below the requirements of even arcade, and should be the stepping stone into QP and then into comp. 25 wins in vs. AI would go a long way to reducing the “taking QP seriously” and the false-report toxicity that goes with new players being new.

And where is your proof that they’re not mostly Overwatch 1 players that didn’t need to do 50 games?
OW1 players probably have gotten 50 wins by now regardless. It’s honestly not that many games. 100 games at 10 minutes each, that’s around 17 hours. New players shouldn’t really be joining Competitive that soon anyway IMO.

It doesn’t make Quick play a fun low consequence version of the game for new players, though. It makes it far too serious and with higher stakes than it had before.
Before it was considered bad form to criticise players for playing badly in Quick play.
But now they have a legitimate reason to be angry because teammates not playing comp-level serious in Quick Play are now a threat to getting those 50 wins.

I need to win to get the titles. Exp and challenges are locked behind winning.
It’s a lot of games where someone that wants to play seriously will have to slog through because they have only 20% of the control over what their team does and a lot of those teammates will either be new players or not playing seriously at all.
Note, it doesn’t factor in role choice either. 50 wins is a hell of a lot more of an ask for a tank or support player.
That just comes with the territory of being a new player. If your friends are new trying to get 50 wins, so too are the teammates trying to get 50 wins. Nobody expects every match to be a win, and as a nooblet, nobody expects their nooblet teammates to be Gods.
As a veteran player I KNOW the game is putting new players on my team and expecting me to carry them, and yeah, that’s frustrating, but it’s also QP. I signed up for that possibility by clicking that tile. I also signed up for the possibility of playing with console players and players trying out new heroes. The point is, they don’t need to feel bad because they’re learning the game, chances are they aren’t the only ones in the match learning. That’s what quickplay is for. It would be so much worse if they were just allowed into ranked without that critical experience.

There’s no way that a brand new player playing their first 100~ games has genuine grievances about their teammates not playing well enough in QP. If they actually are upset about that, then they are delusional about their own skill level. There’s no reason for you to be worried about upsetting them.

It stopped being casual for while my guy…heck arcade stopped being casual too.
The only modes that are chill and just let you have fun are custom games and vs Ai.
