I beg to differ…especially when you tell me to go to an AI game and I am finding Plats with gold weapons just destroying the AI’s so you can’t even practice to begin with.
Training range…boring, can totally map out where the bots are moving.
Custom game? See above
With real people…not always the same, mostly unpredictable, great if you want to learn a healer but the group decides “It’s quick play who cares if we are all DPS and no healers”
Of course if it is not that conversation it is “Why do we need attack Symm?” or “Attack Mei, we are going to lose”
In other words…if you are all serious about comp, people playing etc, why don’t you go hit up comp, or make that custom game, or in fact head over to the practice range yourself

Who says Quick Play is not for practice/learning new heroes?
Practicing is fine as long as you are trying to win and not just go for the kills and never touch the objective.

I practice every new hero in Ranked after waiting 2 weeks. QP is such a terrible environment that I can’t even learn in there.

Quick play is the original game mode and should be treated as seriously as any other.
Not everyone has lots of time to sit at their computer and play long competitive games.
Some people may only be able to play a couple quick games here and there.

This.
QP is the most played game mode. It’s the place to play new heroes. As long as you’re still playing how QP was intended to be played.

You’d be surprised. I cant count how many times Ive read “qp isnt for practice, go play arcade.”

Best way to fix this, and every other issue that plagues the toxic cesspool that is QP (and even comp for that matter…) would be to create and enforce role queues and requirements.
“Every team has to have X amount of tanks, support or flex hero picks.”
Literally the only way to curb the toxic, immature throwing that people do just so they can ‘practice’ missing on Widowmaker.

God I hate it when people say this.
arcade is a terrible environment for getting better.

But then you say “there needs to be unranked mode” and people are like “pffft no that’s stupid”.

Well, we always complain about people insta-locking DPS in Comp and usually forced to fill Tanks & Supports instead.
What did we think they were going to do once they went to Quick Play, continue filling on Tanks & Supports?
Also, yes…some people do go to Quick Play to play Widowmaker. Why?
Because there’s still that stigma against snipers in where nobody wants you on their team unless you can one-shot a Reinhardt that’s on King’s Row with 100 extra armor while his barrier is up…from the spawn room in Illios - Ruins.

and so is qp without healers or tanks.
you are going to learn a bad behavior in qp. have fun in comp after that.
I’ve talked about this before.
No healers/tanks - no problem
Healers and tanks but people are being stupid - no problem (sometimes)
no healers and tanks as well as people being stupid - problem
QP is entirely playable with an all DPS team, but people need to actually play as a team.
QP population > comp population. Not everyone plays comp. And as I touched on above, not having team work skills will be a far greater problem than not playing with tanks and healers. There will be a learning curve regardless.
I digress though. tell me how arcade is a good place to git gud.

It is, and you do. The past two weeks, some family and friends have come back to Overwatch after becoming fed-up with Battle for Azeroth and cancelling their WoW subs. Just for giggles, we ran a DPS 6-stack just to see what happened.
They weren’t easy wins, but we won all four-in-a-row thanks to communicating, coordinating, and coordinating Ults.
Granted, we got bored with the comp set-up after the fourth game, but: You are correct, it is entirely doable.
I wouldn’t recommend it for a random team with no coordination, though.

To all the chronic complainers: Why aren’t you lobbying for a practice non-AI mode? Oh right, that’s because you want something to complain about, AKA people using QP to practice.
I was talking entirely about randoms, but I’m talking about VERY basic things like not trying to 1v4 the enemy, Going into the objective as a team, actually staying behind a shield, ect. Obviously you can’t be coordinated as a 6 stack or voice chat, but things like focus fire and ult comboing are entirely possible with decent teamwork and awareness.
Really, that’s the ultimate problem with QP. People turn off their brains and pretend it’s deathmatch.
Pretty much an expectation as I had in a QP given to me earlier today playing Widow, granted I hadnt played her in awhile but I took to the training range for coordination purposes to refresh my ability on cool downs, recon, venom, etc. Then I went to QP for past couple of days as her and then today I get harassed that I am not taking care of the other Widow, but I am expected to that with a Brig and a junkrat on my tail and everyone thinks they are a tank constantly dying. But when I had that moment to headshot and take out the Widow, no compliments, still complaints…I am a bit fed up with seeing snipers in general getting harassed.
Sidenote, POTG still got me no “Oh you are a good Widow even with that triple kill you got”
It’s stuff like this why “Ranked” Mode is broken AF.
It’s pretty hard to practice in vs AI when, after a 10 minute queue, you are sent to a 300ms latency server, so I’m sorry, but I’m gonna have to “practice” in QP.
