Quick Play Is Completely Broken

I just wanted to log in, equip the skin I actually paid for, and have a couple of chill games. Instead, Quick Play has turned into the most stressful, unfun experience imaginable. Every single match feels like a life-or-death sweat fest where I’m getting rolled by coordinated trios, duos, or even bigger stacks while queuing completely solo.

Is there seriously no cap on how many people can queue together in Quick Play? Because right now it feels like anything goes. I’m constantly matched against groups that are obviously in voice chat, pre-planning ult combos, rotating together, and just generally playing like they’re in a scrim while my random teammates are… well, random. Even without cheaters or smurfs, a coordinated stack has such a massive advantage it’s not even funny. Add in the smurfs on brand-new accounts (you know the ones — level 8, 40+ elims, calling perfect engages) and the obvious cheaters with god-tier tracking and pre-fire wallhacks, and it’s just miserable.

How is a solo player supposed to win against that? I’m not asking for easy wins — I’m asking for fair ones. I bought cosmetics because I enjoy the game and wanted to look cool while playing it. Right now it feels like I paid real money to get stomped and tilted every session. The toxicity is through the roof too — people flaming in chat the second things go slightly wrong, throwing because “it’s just QP,” or the stacks just running it down with zero mercy.

I know the community has been complaining about this for years (stacks in QP, smurfing, weak anti-cheat), and it honestly feels like nothing meaningful has changed for casual/solo players. Quick Play is supposed to be the relaxed mode where you can just hop on and have fun, not a place where you need a 5-stack and a Discord server just to not get destroyed.

Genuine questions for the community:

• How are other solo players coping with this right now? Any actual strategies that help against coordinated stacks?

• Has anyone noticed the smurf/cheater situation getting worse lately, or is it just me?

• Do you think Blizzard should add stack limits in Quick Play (like they do in Competitive) or at least a “solo/duo only” queue option?

I’m not trying to quit the game, but it’s getting really hard to justify logging in when every session just makes me more frustrated. If enough of us speak up, maybe they’ll actually do something. Anyone else feeling this exact same pain?

Honestly bro, you just need to accept the fact that they want to win more than you. I get QP is supposed to be chill but, people still WANT to win

movie gifs — turnswithus: Before Arya Stark, there was Zorro. ...

I play. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.

.. mneh?

I have not noticed an increase in cheaters. I have always played against people better than me, this is not surprising because most people are better at this game than I am.

making queues long for the literally named “quick” play defeats the purpose. People say “blurf blurf casual” or “Blork blork anything goes” but it is QUICK PLAY.. as in getting to play quick. The day they stomp on that is the death of the game… for me.

Quickplay is TRASH because Microsoft is TRASH.

Until these jokers sell off the game, its going to continue to be a flaming pile of crap.

You mean theyre playing Overwatch like its meant to?

And (a lot of) solos treat it like a meme?

I actually started grouping back up with friends for the past few months. But before that, I just was playing Mystery Heroes. At least there, you have a fighting chance at fairness, since the characters are assigned at random. It has its ups and downs, but its not the pain that QP has become.

But when I’m grouped up with 2-4 other friends, we just play QP and generally the games are okay. This week has been a nightmare though, the game matchups have been worse than usual, and I have a lot more red than I normally do in my last 50 game plays, though I did get a 5 game win streak tonight for some reason. But then, right back to dumpster games shortly afterward.

If they are there, I just don’t bother to notice. I could call anyone that dumpster’s me/my team that, but rarely do I actually see proof of it. Smurfs at this point, its like meh. I don’t even think about it. Cheaters I would have to actually see first hand or when reviewing a game, and I rarely do that anymore. But ones that are obvious I will report. As for them getting worse? Not really. The stomps regardless which sides win is about the same, but still far too often for me.

Sort of? I do think they need to stop worrying about queue times, or give us players the option of:

  • Having a choice of either fast queue times or tighter matching
  • Only queue 5 stacks with other 5 stacks.
  • Only queue 3-4 stacks with teams that have 3-4 stacks.

Personally, I don’t mind a good hard sweaty game, as long as both sides seem fairly evenly matched. Those are more fun for me, win or lose to be honest.
Stomps on the other hand are just really crappy games, that are no fun for me, win or lose. Winning without a challenge, or losing due to being over-matched is just not fun. At all.

What’s worse, some players think that’s fun. And that’s even more annoying.

Anyway. My thoughts, such as they are.

Well, this has been around since before MS bought Blizzard. So not sure what the hell that has to do with it. lol

I just understod that game toss me only in matches as a last slot for 2-4 stacks, so if they are in my team they ignore me, and as enemies they are highly coordinated and even flanking won’t work.

So I just soft throw if it’s a pattern for like 4+ games in a row, I don’t like it I won’t be playing those matches. If they would be like once in 5 games it’s ok, but with how OW is generating mtaches these days…

QP is garbage. Only play MH or comp. there’s no point in suffering in the cesspit that is QP.

Quickplay over this event has been rough for solo players. Queuing up to practice a new hero or just chill out and I get put into a game with a 5 stack or a Masters player and they run some cheese like JPC and Bastion to stomp and spawncamp.

I know it’s just the event forcing these people to tryhard super hard to get their wins but man it has not been fun at all to play this game the last weekend. It’s full of people simultaneously too scared to queue competitive but also doing everything they can to farm cheap wins with their stack. Makes no sense to me and I miss when this game was more casual friendly in the casual game mode.

As usual was hard working in my garden near home as it’s almost summer and everything is preparing to bloom
So was asbsent from the game for 3 days, log in today to play just to have 7 losses in a row. All were 3-7 minutes ones (0-2 or 0-3 score), 3 were backfill where i couldn’t do anything against enemies
Guess I’m back to scenario when you loose 5-10 in a row, win 1-2 and then get back to loosing another 5-10 in a row and so on.

I wonder how new players are feeling in such a weird QP matches…
upd - anothe backfill, lost. was with two 1 end player with israel flag who typed bruh things

Just my opinion on this, zero facts.

Solo players will forever be the necessary and lesser valued third wheel filler for the stack. Why? Players that are teamed up regularly encourage consistent engagement. Social pressure (intentional or not) from friends who want to play can convince the one that may not feel like playing anymore or otherwise would not play if it weren’t for their friends. There will always be solo only outliers but they may be seen as less reliable or consistent from an engagement standpoint.

Randoms vs stacks are a known issue and they are at a theoretical disadvantage to play against but the consistent engagement that stacks provide will always have a higher perceived value. If there were suddenly a lot fewer solo filler players (because they opted to be in their own queue) then stacks would have longer queue times and make them less likely to play, hurting engagement.

I say all this as a mostly solo player.
