Quick play hacked suggestion: 2-1-2

A nice middle ground between bringing back 6v6, while being something the devs would feasibly do. Then all you duo tank enjoyers can show how popular duo tank is, incentivizing the devs to bring it back in some form.

Any version of 2 tanks returning would make very clear how terrible going back to it would be

The queue times would be Insane

Not to mention every tank would need massive nerfs

nah, would much rather have two tanks than 2 dps and one tank that is always getting countered by the other team.

That’s not really any different from open queue and wouldn’t be a remotely fair test. I wouldn’t put it past Blizzard though.

I have been looking around both sides now for a while, and I can confidently say 2-1-2 is a fun format in open queue only, it gives the best of all 3 roles including the dps passive. I will say though, the only valid argument 5v5 people have is queue times, which would be horrendous in 2-1-2. I also don’t like the idea of a separate queue for main and off tanks, silly idea.

I feel like the only thing 6v6 people like myself have a chance at getting is open queue 6v6, queue times wouldn’t be a problem because it’s 2 PLAYERS instead of 2 TANK PLAYERS. I would really like to see open queue hacked with 12 players. Of course, balance would need to be addressed, but honestly I say just look at the 6v6 custom games and go from there, or revert to OW1 balance and tune the OW2 heroes accordingly.

The thing about having two tanks to a team means they can’t release any more barrier tanks. I’d rather each role feel unique rather than have two chunky dps on each team.

Queue times would be no different because tanks are big fat dps in OW2.

The only reason nobody wants to play tanks now is because it sucks playing as the ONLY tank. See every other game mode that has no shortage of tanks selected, and often has tank stacking.

having 2 tanks would be shiled watch again do we want to go back to that at all?

They can release barrier tanks, I see why people say this because repeating double shield would be terrible, but look at a tank like Ram, his shield lasts for a certain amount of time, combine that with the long CD of a shield, and you pretty much can’t replicate double shield, and also, the shield part was only part of it. Double shield actually stemmed from other abilities like lamp and brig as a hero and also the two sustain cooldowns that Orisa and Sig had.

They can totally make barrier tanks if this game was 6v6, but they CAN’T give the barrier tank sustain abilities as a trade off, like Rein for example.

Take your medicine and go back to bed grandpa.

They are never going to reduce dps. It’s always been the most played role by far.

I think 2-1-2 would be bad for queue times because dps is the most played role. I’d rather see 2-2-1 personally if they tried this.

I know they said that they tried 2-2-1 in OW2 beta testing, but they didn’t go through with it because killing the only support left a team without sustain and made it too easy to snowball fights.

If they ever did something like this, they would have to be even more extreme with the global healing passive. That way supports can still contribute, but they aren’t a necessity for your team’s survival. This seems to be the direction they want to take the game in anyway.

Supports have the strongest utility in the game by far anyways and as long as it stays that way, there should be wiggle room to make everyone a little less dependent on heals.

The problem with 2-1-2 would be the queue times. DPS is the most popular role in general so reducing the number of DPS would blow their queue times sky high.

2-2-2 wouldn’t hurt the queue times as much, but they will still take a hit. It would also require Blizzard to act quickly to address any issues the tank role in general has to try to keep it fun and help player retention in the role.

That suggestion is the complete opposite of what would keep queue times down.

I like it better than Quicker Play and Double Trouble.

Do you have proof or is this just guesswork?

The last time we had 2 tanks queue times for DPS were 10+ minutes

I disagree this is like my favorite part of tanking now

If there were 2 tanks again tanks would have to be mega nerfed which would make them a lot less fun to play

Name one thing I was wrong about young whippersnapper

Sounds like a great way to make playing support absolutely miserable, which is an awful idea considering they make up a good portion of the playerbase. Much more than tank players. Keeping the least played role (tank) as the least required role is without question the best format to keep queue times down, not to mention 1 tank per team makes balance sense

This was also before OW went F2P and brought in…What, like a million new players? I remember reading that somewhere.

Still no evidence that the player distribution is any different which would mean long queue times again

Yes, but you also don’t have proof showing that you’re correct.

Player counts for OW at the end were most likely at an all-time low and had probably been dipping for a while due to the 2 year content drought and overall state the game was left in.

Without any solid numbers for how the old game looked player-wise to how OW 2 looks, it’s impossible to tell.

That also doesn’t count the countless people who que for flex, which would shorten que times and throw people where ever they fit.

So… the worst part of 6v6 (long queue times) with even longer queue times, and still not being 6v6?

The proof is the last evidence we have of queue times with 2 tanks

Until theres evidence that the ratio of players from role to role is significantly better than it was back then, nothing would be different. Its not so important how many players there are in total as it is important how many players of each role there are

If there are 5x as many DPS players as Tank players, you dont want to require just as many Tank players as DPS players to fill a game, otherwise DPS queues will be roughly 5x longer
