Quick Play Classic should be the main casual mode for OW2

Here’s the thing. Most casual players do not like Role Queue. It makes their queue times higher and doesn’t let them play anything they want. Most competitive players love Role Queue, since it adds a ton more structure to the game and just improves average quality of matches.

So, why not just make Quick Play Classic the main casual mode? It makes sense for QP to be the do-whatever mode, and Competitive being the more restrictive, and well, competitive mode.

This should be in Overwatch 2, since there will be a huge influx of casual players. They will quickly leave if their queue times are exceeding 5 minutes every match.

You’re right, but good luck convincing everyone here.

well its a good thing than its right there, right next to role queue
just not available in the beta

I’d halfway agree, and say that 5v5 with 1-5-2 should be the main game mode.

What we need is a proper matchmaker for every mode.

Since it was added I’ve primarily played QPC, but I feel like it’s going to be a terrible experience in OW2 due to the way tanks work in OW2.

Most people will just click on the first available option, since that’s what our brains default to. I think it would be better to have the Classic mode as the normal Quick Play, since casual players would have a better experience on average.

maybe they wil lswitch the position, idk my guy
we will have to wait and see

I actually prefer Role Queue in quick play. It gives me a place to practice hero mechanics within a team setting, without the threat of losing points. In any case, isn’t quick play classic in the arcade mode or am I wrong about that? Assuming it is, why take the option of Role Queue quick play away, when quick play classic is an option already. Making quick play classic the main mode, just removes an option. I don’t know about you, but I prefer more options🤷‍♂️.

I never said to remove the Role Queue version of QP, just to make the Open Queue version the main mode. In OW2, they’ll be in the same menu.

IMHO, as long as it’s available I don’t mind where it sits. It can be on the main screen or always in arcade as it is now. Either would be fine by me. I wonder if it will even be around with the switch to 5v5 though.

It makes more sense to remove QPC as roles are even more broken than before. If you want to win any match all you have to do is play a bunch of tanks. The game is not even remotely balanced for that and it should never be the main mode unless they scrap everything and start over.

So, you’re saying you want to put quick play classic in the same menu as RQ quick play, in order to make it more visible to the casual gamer? If that’s the case, I guess I got thrown off by you saying “make it the main casual mode.” It sounded to me like you were trying to replace one over the other. Well, as long as it doesn’t remove RQ quick play. It wouldn’t be that big of a deal to make quick play classic easier to see. Although, I feel as though if a player is super casual…arcade might the first place they go.

As a role que supporter.

I agree, casual play should be pick whatever.

Yeah. DPS would be inexistent on OW2 Classic mode.

I can’t imagine how a 3 tanks 2 supports game would be. The better Ana wins the fight, I guess.

Remember, this is a casual environment. These people do not care about what’s meta. They want to have fun. Sure, there will be some teams that run 3 tanks and 2 supports and rule the lobby. Well, you had teams like that in GOATs meta, and that didn’t stop casual players from playing. You know what did? Role Queue.

A lot of people also have fun by constantly winning, even in casual modes. Conversely, losing a lot can be frustrating so people will take steps to avoid it.

It’s not a coincidence that right now Roadhog is in 90% of my Overwatch 1 QPC matches, and it’s not because suddenly everybody decided he had a super fun playstyle.

Once it’s clear that 2-3 tank basically rolls any team comp that doesn’t also use 2-3 tank, you’ll be seeing it in the majority of matches and it’ll make for a miserable experience if you want to play a damage dealer.

From my 10+ people group, only 1 kept playing after GOATS.
And we played on groups. You can’t get better than that on OW.

Playing against 3 tanks it is not fun.
When nothing dies, it feels like there is no progress.
One month of GOATS made my friends move on.
If the enemy team doesn’t die, even as a casual you are going to notice the pattern after some time and, if you don’t like it, you are going to move on.
And when a comp nullifies a whole role, and in this case, the most popular one, people aren’t gonna think about it too much.

Back when GOATs was meta, I wasn’t really seeing much of that comp in QP. I only saw it once, in fact. I would imagine it would be the same in OW2.

The entire game by its very nature of being a video game is casual play. You still want to play with rules that are fair despite it being casual. You wouldn’t play tic tac toe if your opponent got to go twice for every time you went. The game becomes pointless if it is not fair and Overwatch 2 makes tanks far too powerful to be allowed to have 4-5 of them on one team.
