I usually queue in “All Roles” when playing and nothing is more infuriating than just playing the same role over and over. I don’t understand the point of queuing this way if it’s just going to make me play tank 15 times in a row.
There should be a mechanic that detects when you’ve played the same role like 3 or so times in a row and then temporarily blocks that role out. Or even just priorities the other roles for a round.
Just a request for a QOL change or maybe make it an optional change in the settings. I just want to not have to back out and re-queue without that role just because I keep getting placed into it.
It’s especially bad when playing with friends. We can all be queued “all roles” but I will get stuck playing tank 10 times over.
Open queue is what you are describing.
“I don’t want to tank/support/whatever for the 3rd time. I’m going to play (whatever) instead. The team can build around me*”
It defeats the purpose of “all roles” if I’m playing the same role 15 times over.
If I must back out and change to not queue as all roles, but to a single role, then I’m not queuing as all roles. This then influences queue times in the same way.
My suggestion is that the queue system should recognize I’ve played the same role 15 times, then just priority queue for one of the others. There are already incentives for roles, no reason that can’t be one as well.
What is the point of queuing all roles then if I have to back out and stop queuing for all roles to play all roles? The sarcasm is fun, but the “secret technique” is just not queuing for all roles, which defeats the purpose of having an all roles queue in the first place.
EDIT: Also, in Stadium, queuing All Roles gives me Damage every match so maybe try Stadium instead, lol.
You’re referring to Open Queue which is not the same thing as All Roles. All Roles is that you are willingly flexing to what role is available in a role-lock game mode.
The reason is just like League’s Autofill system, to cut down on queue times and to balance out players. The difference is that you could still pick whatever role you want and wait it out until you get a match whereas Autofill will put you in one of the other roles you didn’t pick.
And they both have draw backs, I think Blizzard’s incentivization of getting bonus BP experience is nice but it doesn’t benefit everyone. I’ve argued that queueing for “All Roles” could give you a bonus to your competitive track. So say you got Tank in 5v5, and you win, instead of getting the normal ~20% on the rank track, you get ~24% with a “All Roles Player” bonus. (Yes I know that each match is different, but that’s on average.)
This would get people to All Roles flex more often because they want that extra little bit.
It should weigh the roles you haven’t played yet more. So if you do one game on a particular role, it should weigh the other two roles higher on your next all roles queue. Then if you get the same one again, it should increase the other two roles’ likelihood even more, and so on, until you get that role. Then it’d lower to a significant degree.
The main problem here is that “All Roles” is a misnomer, or, at the very least, doesn’t fully convey the true purpose behind the button. Its actual name should be “Fill Queue”, but it neither has the ring, nor the mystery of “All Roles”. The button’s sole purpose is to shorten the queue times of the more popular roles by sticking the player into the one that pops first – the least popular one. There are certain rewards for pressing this particular button, but beyond that there’s not much else.
Actually agree with you, and this is why I kinda miss the priority ticket system from OW, even though it had it’s own issues and didnt work in the end.
Then you are not queueing “all roles”. If you do not want to get a specific role queue 2/3 roles and you will get only 2/3 roles. When you queue “All Roles” what you are saying is that you are okay playing whatever role gets you into a game fastest.
Given that the ability to not get a specific role 3x in a row exists currently, by simply swapping from “All Roles” to 2/3 roles it seems like what you want is the perks of queueing that without actually having to deal with what it actually is.
“All roles” is you telling the game “I am fine with whatever, just get me in the game”. So the game does exactly that. If you want to play another role, just queue for it? I don’t really see the problem. “All roles” puts you in whatever role is needed most. If you see low queue times on tanks, you can bet you are tank in the next game. Tank and sometimes support. Those are the “All roles”. If you queue all roles just for the weekly, well, that sucks, I guess. And maybe the game should put you in support after 6 tank games in a row. But generally speaking, if you want to play as another role, just directly queue for it instead of hoping All Roles does it for you.
Its a semantic issue I guess because the queue is not “Random Role” or “All roles”, its a Flex queue, aka “whatever that is required to start a match faster”.
For random role and hero, go MH, the superior mode.
For an open choice, then Open Queue.
Queuing all roles means you are a vacant for the MatchMaker needs and ready for any outcome. It doesn’t say the roles distribution will be equal or prioritize any balance. It is impossible considering the Tank role issue.
From my experience it just gives you the role in a given match which is still open and it depends on what the other players are queuing for in the moment.
I remember when Hazard was released and I queued “All Roles” and expected to get tank that most of the time I got DPS instead.
When Freja was released I got more tank and support, obviously because more players like to play DPS and want to play the new hero.
If you beforehand know that you don´t want to play Tank then just queue for DPS/Support and wait a bit longer which wouldn´t be different than if they would put a limit on how many times you get a certain role in “All Roles”.
That´s how I do it.
