Queue Times and FTP | We are Boned

Here are some of the current relatively to extremely successful FTP game.

CSGO
Apex Legends
TF2
Fortnite
Pub G (less these days)
Splitgate
Halo Infinite
Destiny 2
Valorant

How on earth do people think courting these players is going to alleviate dps quque times?

The common threads are FTP, and shooty bang bang. Let’s face it, we are screwed when it comes to queue times.

Queue times are all about ratios and not raw numbers. So, no, I dont expect getting new players will help much. They’ll most likely entice people to play roles they find unfun with battlepass dailies.

Right, but the ratio will change along with the change in playerbase, which is moving towards these audiences.

Just like how free lootboxes fixed the tank queue

Good thing you dont like the game anyway, so you wont have to worry about it. I play support but i can see why some might be worried about this.

It shouldnt be too bad in the US for anyone outside of the highest ranks

I think role limits should be given a chance. A compromise between helping queue times and keeping a stable team structure.

? I have always made it abundantly clear that I love OW. OW2 is trashy however. I would like to see OW2 succeed, in fact. This wont do that.

Lootboxes are mostly useless for anyone that has been playing awhile. Theres a reason so many players were sitting on hundreds to thousands of them.

I also feel like having new heroes behind the BP will be a way bigger enticement to finish your dailies than a lootbox that most likely only had 3 emotes and a voiceline ever was anyways.

No one cares if you love ow1. This thread that you made was about ow2 which you said you are not going to play.

You dont have to worry about this

I don’t think it’s so crazy that people who play those games might play something other than DPS. Didn’t ML7 use to play CS before OW came along?

given those examples, do you suppose there is a bias in the f2p model’s appeal towards a dps oriented game? If so, is it to be assumed that a game offering more isn’t simply an unfilled niche for players not interested in a purely dps f2p experience? I feel like it has a lot of potential given how diverse of an audience the original game got despite it’s retail price.

fall guys is pretty cool too. a game i play once in a while just because the randomness of it and how it can be hilarious

Just to make sure, are you arguing that the queue times will be fixed by the battlepass dailies? Just wanted to bookmark your response.

It’s not too late to advocate for OW2 to be good. IDK why you are so hung up on it being bad, as if you are hoping it will be.

I can both never touch OW2, and hope it gets good.

What are you trying to change? you are not going to stop ftp with forum posts. I play free games already and they are fine. Some aspects are annoying, overall its ok

Theres a lot i dont like about ow1 now thats changing for the better too

Raw numbers do matter when a playerbase shrinks too much. OW matchmaking has already been affected by this for the past two years, hence why players of very different skill levels have been matched in the same games. You need both enough players to queue at the same time and a proportionate ration between the role populations.

The future success of the game, something you are actively undermining.

subjective

And you are ADVOCATING for the annoying things, as you are here by defending it. You are doing this, not them exclusively.

I’ll give you CC reduction… I think that might be literally the only positive, which quickly turned into a negative since supports are now fodder, as seen by the beta queue times.

But, finally, you are derailing this thread, as you often do to other threads. Debate about the queue times please, the original topic.

None of that effects queue times though. Thats a matchmaking quality issue. I agree that having more players means theres more players around your skill level so matchmaking becomes more fair. It doesnt help queue times unless theyre playing support though

I’m pretty sure what he is getting at, was that they loosened the matchmaker in order to reduce queue times.

It does affect queue times though because the matchmaker has to wait longer for players of the same skill bracket to queue at the same time. In fact, since role queue was added to the game the devs had to widen the skill difference of players matched in the same game at least three times. That was one of the dev’s “solution” to those dps players queuing for so long, and it did shave off some time at the expense of worse matchmaking quality.

And this is why I keep smacking people over the head with the need to make the Support role desirable to DPS players and FPS players.

only if 222 (or 122, whatever) is forced

if the game moves to a role-less queue model, these issues go away
