At minimum, it takes approximately 6 minutes to find support queue in QP. I can’t imagine how long it takes in ranked matches. I rarely get matched with people from OW1 anymore; most of them are new players. The game has failed to bring back returning players, my friends whom i used to play with in OW1, has only played OW2 for couple of days after the launch. They need to release the PvE mode ASAP.
I think the queue times in PvP after PvE drops will be pretty damn scary.
I just played 3 supp games in QP solo. Instant queues just to get dps that stand in front of the tank. Great fun I tell ya.
That is months and months away.
The queues are going up exponentially (for comp) and it’s 5 months into a new release.
My casual modes are at least still fast, but total blowouts.
Yep, I’m still pegging it as around 6 months away.
Yep, tuning the matchmaker, that old quality / speed tradeoff.
There isn’t much to trade.
A matchmaker can be fair AND fast. It finds 10 people at random, around the same SR band, say within some 300 sr band. It looks for 2-3 minutes, and then expands that to a wider range, and a wider one.
If less than 3000 players are online simultaneously (not in the queue, just online period)…within 1-2 of those ranges, the user gets a message: “warning low pop low quality”…
If it can’t do that, it’s because the game is lowpop (i.e. almost dead), and they lied.
Obviously that is assuming 3k for one mode, in every region.
Speed of light stops world population being put in one bucket.
30-40 seconds at most, actually. Not sure where you’re playing and what time it is for you, but that could greatly affect the times.
Yes. There is some N_min, simulatenous per region, below which the game may as well be dead.
Is that what is going on? How could it get to a point that 10 golds have to wait 8 mins to find each other and play 1 match? This is like solo/duo queue. Moving into casual modes, how come it can’t find a silver/gold QP lobby that isn’t crossplay? I have nearly 100% crossplay lobbies…
There should be thousands of middle ranks online per region at any given time. Estimates based crudely on a population quote that starts at 35 million. Partitioning it out, or looking at activeplayers io, where you have 40k online for like 1 region. More during peak hours.
What are they even trying to “tune” behind the scenes? Why does it keep breaking? It must be some complicated rigging, or the game is dead, or they’re totally unprofessional.
Lemme guess, mass exodus of Support players?
How do you know they are new players?
You can “assume” from no-skin heroes and no golden guns etc, but that’s not really a fair estimate, as tons of OW1 players also just run default.
that’s because the game is bad, the players are bad, and the devs are bad
welcome to ow2
they care more about suspending people from the forums, than they do about the game
time to refocus priorities blizzard
if the nameplates aren’t mlg gamer tags, and are more derpy tags, like sausageking or fisheater, or ihavenoeyes, the skins are basic, no golden guns, etc…then that’s how you know you’re getting the “these aren’t main accounts” end of the stick.
which is bad either way, because it means alts, trolls, smurfs, meme accnts, or new players.
you’re not getting an authentic match of mains vs. mains.
that’s how it was for basically all of OW1 (because of mmr vs. sr)
The MM and laddering experience was just as fake and rigged as it is now.
You are looking for a minority of a minority.
Not only support players, but also DPS mains who are sick of playing against supports.
There’s a certain part of the population in Overwatch that’s essentially been asking for a PvE experience within PvP for a very long time now:
-
They want their own team’s healers to make them significantly harder to kill with strong sustain/buffs.
-
They want their own team’s healers to have enough personal survivability that they never have to worry about peeling for their healer.
- …But they also call it unfair when the enemy team’s healers make it noticably harder for them to get kills, and hate it when enemies make themselves difficult (or just plain annoying) to deal with in general.
PvE will give these players the experience they’re looking for: a game mode where support characters are only strong and capable when they’re on the dps player’s side.

How do you know they are new players?
OW1 players will display old level badge next to their endorsement level.
That also extends to a lot of abilities, there is a lot you can do which would be fun as hell to play with that ability which would NOT be fun to play against.
PvE will let those abilities be in the game and strong.
I think it will be fun as hell.
What region/platform are you on that its taking 6 minutes for support???
All 3 roles are less than 60 seconds for me on US East PC…
In their career profile you mean?
99.99% of all profiles are locked.
And also, this is removed now.
Edit: apparently the changed it. They used to be displayed even if they lock the profile.
