Ok, so as a low ranked player like myself… I’m Silver… I’ve hit Gold 5 twice at the end of the season and rank decayed back down and honestly, haven’t even bothered with playing much comp in a while because I rank down when I go 5-1 and only rank up sometimes if I go 5-0… So I usually have to go 10-0 in order to ever rank up… So I admit, a single loss just kills the vibe for me and I don’t have the patience to grind like I need to.
That being said, I think the above trend that some players seem to face, while others report the total opposite, is the literal exact reason they are doing this rank reset. And no, I don’t think Blizz is “out to get” some people and not others. I think the ranking algorithm is not optimized, and tends to punish accounts with longer histories of low SSR, and longer play histories in general.
So my question is, for next season, what is probably the ideal time to do my placement matches in comp? Since I’m a low-ranked, overall bad player… all I’m wanting is for my placement matches to at least include some matches where the other players are actually at my level. Doesn’t that mean I should wait a bit for more people to be properly calibrated before placing? And I wonder if that means that I’m better off just waiting til S10 to place? thoughts?
In S9, the rank system will be more transparent about why your rank goes up and down. But yeah, you should probably wait a week or two for better matches with people around your skill range.
Honestly, I’d say doing competitive is best done in the latter half of the season anyway. New season balance changes throw things out of whack at the start of each season. S8 literally started with OP Mauga and people playing him every game.
Later half of the season was phenomenally balanced after getting the nerfs in.
Yeah, I’m so excited about the new ranking system and that they are nixing the 5-win thing… I hate it. Match by match can have it own frustrations if you over-analyze every match too much, but personally, I prefer that over feeling like I have to go 10-0.
Great points… Better calibrated overall and more balanced overall. So latter half is the way to go, as opposed to waiting for early S10. Good advice, ty
Yeah, I would not be a qualifier for that kind of player lol… ig, not unless maybe my main hero is the beneficiary of said OP’ness flavor, but Ashe hasn’t been heading in that direction for a long time.
I hear people say to jump in straight away since there will be less smurfs.
Unranked to GM takes only a few hours…At the second day if not also the first they will place all their alt acc and keep making new ones for either content or just for the sake of it… Thnx for making the game free blizz…
So might as well jump in at day one…
For me personally I just wait… I first want to check out the entire new system and watch some streamers to see a bit more…
