Before i ask question, i want to clarify that i never played OW1 and dont have an opinion on the 5v5 vs 6v6 drama.
My question is this… after finally having time to read entire blog, it was mentioned several times that their goal is to find something in between open qeue and the restrictions of role qeue. The way it was described the only thing i can think of would be role limits, such as not being locked to a set role but also not being allowed to jave more than 2 of same role on a team. Does anyone know of another way that could have been interpreted because that sounds horrible? Granted it would fix qeue times since people wouldnt be queuing for a specific role, but Whoever is slowest to pick their hero would be locked into a role they cant/wont play.
Yea I still don’t know how we get people to want to play tank when people don’t want to play tank

By bringing tanks to pre rq standards were they stop mattering as much

This sounds like the way to go for it. I have a feeling that it might be also possible to play 3 dps instead of just 2 at the cost of either support or tank (which ever role gets locked last)

The thing about the implementation of role queue was that it wasn’t a casual decision. Three years of data went into it, and the problems with open queue had to be dealt with if the game was to have a longer shelf life. One could argue all day about semi-role queue, but the devs don’t have unlimited time to fix problems. Oftentimes, the simple solutions are the best. Or at least efficient. It’s like the global hp buff. People complain about it and say they should’ve just reduced healing and damage instead, but that would’ve accomplished the same thing while requiring way more work.
Maybe isn’t terrible. The game never was intented to be played with RQ. If is a new mode to play the game is better not worse.
Nothing should be exclusive. Although their direction can change, because they changed several times already since the OG game conception. The major problem is if they don’t keep stuff while making those changes.
The alternative would be open with hero bans or forcing you to play role X because they internaly intented to you play it. I’m not saying they should remove options from the game, but even today the game wasn’t built with RQ in mind.
I would rather have open on qp and open with hero bans on comp. But also I would rather have role limits than RQ anyday. Doesn’t mean I want folks not being able to access RQ if they actually want it. That’s why folks are often vocal about 6v6, because was removed from them.
Role limits is what comes to mind for me, but it doesn’t necessarily mean 2-2-2. It could be something like a 2 tank/2 support limit allowing 1-3-2 compositions without allowing any of the triple tank/triple support compositions.

By releasing fun new tank heroes, while ceasing the release of new dps heroes. Until both roles have 20 heroes.
Also some of the new tank heroes could have aspects to their appearance and personality similar to fan favourites. Something like a Hashimoto Samurai tank as the villain to the shimadas, weilding a 2hand katana, to interest genji stans and weebs.
Call him a dark souls tank. Make his block on right click which you can hold up for say, 3 seconds at a time, able to parry within a certain time frame or something. Give him different strikes depending on directional input. W +m1 = distant stab., a, s, d (including when holding w) = wide slash.
He has tripple jump, since wall run should be a shimada only thing. Perhaps he even has a unique slash after his 2nd and 3rd jumps. Ground stab after 3rd jump maybe?
Okay those ideas are not entirely thought through on a deep level but something like that… something that sounds like it would be totally freaking awesome. These new tanks need high skill expression and skill ceiling like queen. So less hp, no barriers, etc. Well one or two more barriers maybe okay if they’re implemented like rein, not a deployable.
That’s what i’d do.
Oh yeah and a pokemon trainer tank to try attract players who gravitate to cutesy support heroes. They can be devious and make it so that only the pokemon trainer and other tank player can interact with the super adorable pet hehe.
True, I think we need 2 back to back tanks next

Funny thing is, i actually love tank. Just get tired of too many toxic teamates. Make one mistake and they are hollering tank diff the rest of the match and start throwing. Even worse with recent buffs since teams are even more reliant on tanks to win fights.
